Ogun police arrest suspected cultist allegedly trying to disrupt a school's examination

The Federal Government has begun the process for the valuation and sale of property belonging to the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke which were forfeited to the government. 99.4 % of bank accounts contain less than N500,000— NDIC

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC, said that 99.4 per cent of bank accounts contain less than N500,000 Maximum Insured Limit (MIL) of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC. Managing Director/Chief Executive, NDIC, Mr. Bello Hassan disclosed this in Gombe, at a recent event.He stated this against the concerns over the adequacy of tl the NDIC’s maximum coverage limits of N500,000per depositor per commercial, merchant and, non-interest bank, primary mortgage bank and mobile money operator, as well as N200,000 per depositor per microfinance bank. “The Corporation invites you to note that in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, the total number of accounts in the deposit money banks stood at 83.0 million; 99.1million; 112.0 million and 128.4 million respectively.  Out of these numbers, the N500,000 coverage limit fully covered 99.4%; 97.6%; 97.5% and 97.6% of accounts, respectively. A 26-year-old man identified as Aliyu Na Idris who put himself for sale for the sum of N20 million has been arrested by Hisbah police in Kano. Head of Hisbah Board, Commander Sheik Harun Ibn Sina said it is forbidden in Islam for one to put himself up for sale. “Yes we arrested him yesterday (Tuesday) night and he spent the night with us but I haven’t interrogated him,” he told The BBC. Idris, a tailor, had told reporters that he put a placard on his neck and went around Kano city, saying ‘I am for sale for N20m’ because of poverty. “My family is aware of it and it is because of poverty, I first tried Kaduna but I didn’t get any buyer so I moved to Kano. Pres. Buhari Launches Nigerian Digital Currency, E-Naira

President Muhammadu Buhari has launched Nigerian digital currency, E–Naira. While launching the digital currency, at the State House, Abuja, on Monday, October 25, the president said the adoption of new CBN digital currency is estimated to increase Nigeria’s GDP by $29 billion over the next 10 years. “We have become the first country in Africa and one of the first in the world to introduce a digital currency to our citizens,” he said.  Adding that the new virtual currency would improve cross-border trade, financial inclusion for those outside the formal economy and increase remittances.  Nigerian authorities say the currency is not intended to replace cash but will function as a safe and efficient alternative means of payment. The eNaira will be a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), issued by the government, and it will have the same value as the paper, or fiat, currency.

Former Deutsche Bank whistleblower awarded $200m record payout

An American regulator has handed a record-breaking award of almost $200 million to a former Deutsche Bank employee who raised the alarm about Libor-rigging, in the biggest-ever US whistleblower payout. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in a statement on Thursday, October 21, said the payment had been made for “specific, credible and timely original information” that “significantly contributed” to an already “open investigation” by authorities in the US and UK. Reuters reports that a Law firm, Kirby McInerney LLP, said one of its clients received the record bounty after providing extensive information and documents in 2012 that "catalyzed" investigations by the CFTC and a foreign regulator into benchmark manipulation. Two sources told Reuters the whistleblower had previously worked for Deutsche Bank. Man puts himself up for sale for N20m in Kano. Rejects N10m, N5m offers

A 26-year-old tailor, identified as Aliyu Na Idris, has put himself up for sale in Kano for the sum of N20 million. Idris, who’s said to be from Kaduna State, has been roaming the streets of Kano with a placard that reads, “This man is for sale for N20 million.”  Daily Trust reports that the young man has been on the streets for five days looking for who will buy him. According to him, he had decided to sell himself due to hardship. He said his family was aware that he had offered himself for sale, adding that he had initially presented himself for sale in Kaduna but when he could not get a serious buyer, he decided to try Kano State with the hope that someone will pay the required price. “Even though many people have offered me various prices of N10m, N5m and N300,000 in Kano, I refused because the amount is less than what I expected,” he said.  The young man said he was operating a tailoring business which failed due to the financial crisis and as such, he lost his custom

61-yr-old man arrested for deflowering and defiling a 15-yr-old girl for four years

  The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, has charged a 61-year-old man, Alfa Olayiwola Rasak, to court for allegedly r*ping a 15-year-old girl. Rasak was charged to court on Friday, October 22, for R*pe contrary to Section 34(1) and p*nishable under section 34(2) of the Child Rights Law of Oyo State by the Anti-Human trafficking and child protection unit of the command. The command’s spokesperson , CSC Oluwole Olusegun, who disclosed this in a statement, said the suspect was arrested for defiling the minor and had continuously r*ped her for over 4 years. He was said to have deflowered the girl when she was 11 years. The suspect was dr*gged before Chief Magistrate S. H. Adebisi of family court 1 Iyaganku Ibadan and after hearing the count charges against him, the suspect pleaded guilty and was asked to be remanded in Abolongo correctional facility till November 8, 2021. 

Billionaire business man, Femi Otedola, has acquired the majority shares of FBN Holdings, owners of First Bank.

Otedola is reportedly behind a massive mop-up of the shares of FBN Holdings, which would result in his becoming the single majority shareholder of the company. Sources with knowledge of the purchase said majority ownership of FBN Holdings, owners of Nigeria’s oldest bank, First Bank, is about to be upturned following months of slow and meticulous purchase of the company shares on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange by Otedola.    Otedola has been gradually accumulating his ownership and surpassing shares owned by any other single shareholder of the bank.   An official announcement would be coming in the days ahead.   Otedola has been acquiring the shares of the bank through a vehicle, Calvados Global Services Limited.  FBNH currently has 34.7 billion of its shares floating freely meaning it is held by diverse shareholders. Nigerian man arrested with party drugs worth N4m in India

A Nigerian national has been arrested by the Crime Branch of Goa Police, India and party drugs worth Rs 7.4 lakh (N4,072,965.90) were seized from him. The accused identified as Amaechi Ekene was nabbed by the police along the north Goa coastal belt in Mapusa, Panaji on Thursday, October 21, and was booked under relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act. "Upon conducting the raid, one Nigerian national Amaechi Ekene was arrested carrying multiple types of drugs namely LSD blots, ecstasy tablets both in commercial quantities and MDMA. Total market value of seized drugs is over Rs 7.4 lakh," a Goa Police spokesperson said. The drugs were said to be concealed in the storage compartment of a scooter by the accused. Police said that probe is on to identify the source of the drugs. The offences under the NDPS Act, 1985, are non-bailable. Two Nigerians have been arrested after being found with 11 grams of cocaine in Lilongwe, Malawi.

The two suspects have been identified as 35-year-old Chinesi Omuka and Ejike Enebenchu, 29. Spokesperson for the Central West Police Region, Alfred Chinthere, who disclosed this on Friday, October 22, said the duo were nabbed at their home in Area 49 following a tip-off. 11 grams of cocaine were recovered from them during the raid.  Omuka and Ebenenchu are expected to appear before court soon to answer a charge of being found in possession of illicit drugs. Acccording to the police spokesperson, the second accused Enebenchu was in July this year convicted on the same charge. He paid a K200 thousand fine for the offence. 

The minor was defiled by blunt penetration- Doctor tells court in Baba Ijesha case

A medical doctor told the court during the resumed hearing in Baba Ijesha's sexual assault case that the minor who the actor allegedly assaulted was indeed defiled. Dr Aniekan Makanjuola on Thursday, October 21, narrated his findings before an Ikeja Special Offences Court. Dr. Makanjuola said: "Our findings were that there was a blunt penetration of the vagina which was consistent with the client’s history." Makanjuola, a trained forensic medical examiner, is the Head of Clinical Services at Women at Risk International Foundation (WARIF). She continued: "We took her to the consulting room and she gave a history of the events from seven years ago. NRC halts Abuja-Kaduna train service

The Nigeria Railway Corporation has stopped services on the Abuja-Kaduna route after insisting that train tracks were vandalized. LIB reported earlier that Kaduna-bound passengers were forced to return to Abuja after being unable to get to their destination as a result of the damage on the track. While former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani stated that the tracks were bombed by bandits, Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) Mr. Fidet Okhiria, blamed vandals for the act. The NRC in a statement shared on website, stated that it has suspended operation on Abuja-Kaduna route for the safety of passengers and crew members. Three arrested in Ogun for allegedly beating man to death over allegations of stealing an iPhone 6

Men of Ogun State police command on Wednesday, October 20, arrested three men namely; Felix Sunday, Shomuye Musa, and Oluwatobi Michael for beating one Tunji George to death over an allegation of stealing an iPhone 6. The suspects were arrested following a report by one Bola George who reported at Onipanu divisional headquarters that her brother was alleged to have stolen an iPhone 6 at Keke hotel in Iyana Iyesi Ota, consequent upon which the deceased was tied with rope in the hotel and tortured to death.  Having realized that the victim was about to give up the ghost, the suspects quickly rushed him to a hospital, but before they got to the hospital, the victim had died.  Upon the report, the DPO Onipanu Division, CSP Bamidele Job, mobilized his men and moved to the scene, where two of the suspects were apprehended, while the remaining one was arrested in the hotel where the did was done. The police in Lagos state have reportedly arrested two persons at the Lekki tollgate as Nigerians plan to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the October 20 EndSARS protest that turned bloody. One of those arrested claimed he was a journalist while the other person stormed the tollgate with a placard with the intention to stage a protest. The two persons are currently in police black maria vans. The state police command released a statement on Tuesday warning residents of the state against staging any street protest. According to the statement, only indoor and virtual events will be allowed.

Indian woman claims she gave birth to her first child at age 70

An Indian woman claims to have had her first child at the age of 70.   Jivunben Rabari is believed to be one of the oldest first-time mothers in the world after she and her husband Maldhari, 75, welcomed their son.   They showed off the child to reporters as they said he had been conceived through IVF.   Rabari has said she does not have ID to prove her age, but told reporters it was 70, which would make her one of the oldest first mothers in the world.     However, another Indian woman, Erramatti Mangayamma, is believed to be the oldest after having twin girls in September 2019 at the age of 74.   Rabari and Maldhari, from a small village called Mora in Gujurat, India, have been married for 45 years and have been trying unsuccessfully for a baby for decades. They were able to have a child through IVF, which can be effective after menopause. Security guard conspires with criminal gang to attack and rob his employer in Adamawa

A Nigerian man, Chisom popularly known as Mikky Miguel has died after he was allegedly poisoned by a friend in Indonesia.

  One Prince Ebukason Victor, who disclosed this in a Facebook post on Monday, October 18, said the deceased father of two, who is married to an Indonesian national, buried his late father few months ago.    "What a Wicked Word, he buried his Father few months ago and now they have to poison him in Indonesia. A 61-year-old estate agent, Bayo Sina Babarinde, was on Sunday morning, October 17, reportedly sh*t d*ad by unknown g*nmen during a church service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), in Ilorin, Kwara State. 25-year-old man kills 50-year old man over woman in Ogun

A 25-year-old man, Bisi Omoniyi, was on October 15, arrested by operatives of Ogun state police command for killing a 50 years old man he met at his woman friend's house. The suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the police in Owode Egbado divisional headquarters, that a young man has matched another man to death in Ajilete town.  Upon the distress call, the DPO Owode Egbado, CSP Olabisi Elebute quickly mobilized the divisional patrol team to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested, and the victim was rushed to hospital but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. Update: Four police officer caught on camera attacking traveler along expressroad in Kogi have been arrested

The Kogi State Police Command has commenced investigations into a trending video where Police personnel attached to Adogo Division, while on patrol duty along Adogo-Okene road, reportedly extorted the sum of Twenty-Five Thousand Naira (N25,000) from a traveller while another was physically assaulted by one of the men in uniform. A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command,  DSP William Ovye Aya, says the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Idrisu Dauda Dabban, while condemning the incident, noted that the Police officers have been identified and detained at the State Criminal Investigations Department.  The officers are: ASP Isah Barnabas, Inspector Ifediegwu Godwin, Sgt Emmanuel Ochima and CPL Umameh Mathias who physically assaulted one of the travellers. Abducted students, staff of FGC Birnin Yauri, Kebbi regain freedom after 118 days in captivity

The over 90 students and members of staff of Federal Government College (FGC), Birnin Yauri, in Kebbi State, have been released. The victims regained freedom after spending 118 days in captivity. Recall that on Thursday, June, 17, bandits numbering about 150 invaded the college and abducted over 90 students, comprising male and female, and three members of staff, among them a vice principal.  A father of one of the kidnapped students, confirmed to Daily Trust that the students have been released.

No Place Like Home: Liberia deports four Nigerians 10years after bank heist conviction

Four Nigerians convicted of a bank heist in Liberia have been deported, following the completion of their 10-year sentence. Onuegbu Frank Chidozie (40), Francis Ezeji (32), Chukwu Ago (44) and Kingsley Okoro (40) were committed to prison on December 14, 2010, after the court found them guilty of attacking a bank’s branch in Kakata, Margibi County and stealing valuables and cash worth $207,799 (N85 million). The four were tried under Section 14.32 and 50.5 of the Penal Law of the Republic of Liberia at the 13th Judicial Circuit Court. Liberia’s Justice Minister Frank Musa Dean described the quartet as ‘undesirable aliens’ and directed the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) Commissioner-General Robert Budy to deport them. According to reports, the four were subsequently deported to Nigeria via Air Cote D’Ivoire.

Man arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting minors in Lagos

Detectives at the Akodo Police Division, Lagos State, have arrested one Ayo Adenupebi, aged 20, resident of Ise town, Akodo for sexually assaulting a 9-year-old minor(name withheld) who lives on the same street with him. The incident was reported after the victim's elder sister noticed blood stains on her (victim) thigh at about 7pm on October 1. When asked, the victim alleged that the suspect sexually assaulted her and warned her against telling anyone including her parents.  Following the report made at the Akodo Police Division by the victim's father, detectives immediately arrested the suspect.  Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime but pleaded for leniency. 55-yr-old woman arrested for buying twins in Imo after faking pregnancy

The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 55-year-old woman, Mrs. Chinyere Ohanyere, popularly known as Madam Chichi, for allegedly buying a set of twins for an undisclosed fee. It was gathered that Ohanyere was arrested at an Estate in Owerri, alongside her relative, Adaeze Ohanyere, who had been arrested before in a child trafficking case. Ohanyere allegedly pretended to have given birth to the twins on September 3, at Irete in Owerri West LGA of Imo State. Bank staff arrested for staging his own robbery while with his employer’s N3m cash

Insecurity: Avoid traveling at night — FRSC warns

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised against travelling by night, citing the deplorable state of most federal roads and increasing insecurity across the country.
