A former staff of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Gloria Obioma Elih has been declared wanted for fraudulent practices.    Elih was accused of allegedly demanding and receiving gratification from officials of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources who were being investigated.   It was further learnt that she was declared wanted because all efforts to serve her and procure her attendance in court have proved abortive.   Tweets shared on ICPC's official Twitter handle read;  “The person whose picture appears above, Gloria Obioma Elih, is hereby declared WANTED by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC). “Criminal charges were filed by ICPC against Elih, a former staff of the Commission, before an FCT High Court presided over by Hon. Justice Adeniyi for allegedly demanding and receiving gratification from officials of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources who were being investigated.

Mother of two stabbed to death by suspected armed robbers in imo

A married mother of two, Uchechi Ogoke, was stabbed to death while her two children were injured by suspected armed robbers in Ihitte Uboma local government area in Imo state today June 30. According to an eyewitness who sent the story to LIB, the woman's husband is based in Malaysia. In the early hours of today, neighbors woke up to see the woman in a pool of her own blood while her two kids and the house help were injured. The eyewitness said the unidentified persons also took away her ATM card. The police were invited and her body has been evacuated and deposited in the mortuary. The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident to LIB and said an investigation into the incident has commenced. ''The persons broke into her house through the window with a gun and a matchete. They beat her and stabbed her all over her body until she gave up the ghost. They stole her jewelries and the sum of N28, 000'' Ikeokwu 

CAF postpones 2021 Africa cup of nations to 2022

The African Confederation of Football (CAF) has decided to postpone the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to 2022.   The tournament was set to take place between January 9 and February 6, 2021, in Cameroon, but it has now been postponed due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.  "After consultation with stakeholders and taking into consideration the current global situation, the tournament has been rescheduled for January 2022," Caf confirmed in a statement. "The date for the final tournament and the remaining matches of the qualifiers will be communicated in due course." CAF also announced that the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) has been postponed to 2021, while the 2020 Africa Women's Cup of Nations was cancelled due to 'challenging conditions.'

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has alleged that Nigerians were forced to accept the Coronavirus pandemic.  The Kogi state Governor said this at a prayer session for late Nasir Ajana, Kogi chief judge on Tuesday June 30. He insisted that Coronavirus is only out to create fear, panic, reduce and shorten the lifespan of people.  Bello who countered claim of the state's Chief Judge dying from Coronavirus, also stated that nothing kills faster than fear. He said at the event “Whether medical experts and scientists believe it or not, COVID-19 is out to shorten the lifestyle of the people, it is a disease propagated by force for Nigerians to accept. COVID-9 is only out to create fear, panic – orchestrated to reduce and shorten the lifespan of the people.” 

Iran's court sentences ex-opposition leader ruhollah zam to death

An Iran court on Tuesday, June 30, sentenced ex-opposition leader Ruhollah Zam to death. Ruhollah Zam, who was accused of fueling anti-government protests, was arrested and indicted over corruption charges, after his return from exile in France in 2019 . The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the arrest of Zam in October last year. "The court has considered 13 counts of charges together as instances of corruption on earth and therefore passed the death sentence," judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Esmaili said today after his sentencing. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had called Zam a "counter-revolutionary" who was "directed by France's intelligence service".  Zam, who reportedly lived in Paris, had reportedly taken part in anti-government protests in 2017 and ran a channel on the Telegram messaging app called Amadnews. The police in Oyo state have arrested 26-year-old Shagbada Erigga pictured above for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Happiness Winifred, 30, for refusing to have sex with him. Parading the suspect before newsmen today June 30, the Oyo state Commissioner of Police, CP. Chuks Enwonwu, said that the suspected murderer, Erigga invited Happiness, a mother of three, to his home to spend the night with him on June 21. They got into a heated argument after she refused to have sex with him. He punched her three times. Lagosians Can Now Get COVID-19 Test For N50,400.

Lagos residents who are unable to get themselves tested in government own facilities would henceforth pay N50,400 in a private laboratory to conduct COVID-19 test. The state’s commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi disclosed this while launching the Lagos State Private-Public Consortium on the management of COVID-19 to increase the capacity of the state government in the management of the pandemic. He said though the tests were being conducted in government owned laboratories free, the approved private laboratories will conduct COVID-19 tests in the state at a cost of between N40,000 and N50,400. With this development most residents, particularly those with suspected symptoms are apprehensive that they might not get adequate attention from the public hospitals or other facilities, where they usually undergo the screening free of charge on the excuse that the testing kits are inadequate. The National Union of Road Transport Workers has commended the Federal Government for lifting the ban on interstate travel in the country. Acting General Secretary of the union, Kabiru Yau, called on the government to subsidise operation cost for motorists. He said the guidelines outlined by the government for the resumption of operations amid the coronavirus pandemic require operators to carry fewer passengers on each trip, thereby reducing their income. Power grid has collapsed 108 times after privatisation - TCN

The nation’s electricity grid has collapsed 108 times after the power sector was privatised, data from the Transmission Company of Nigeria have shown. The TCN, which manages the national grid, is still fully owned and operated by the government. While the TCN says the grid has a wheeling capacity of 8,100MW, the highest power generation ever attained in the country stands at 5,375MW. The sector was privatised by the President Goodluck Jonathan administration with 11 electricity distribution companies and six generation companies handed over to core investors on November 1, 2013. Between November 1, 2013 and May 2020, the number of total grid collapse recorded was 83 while the grid partially collapsed 25 times. The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the probe of the policemen who allegedly arrested D'banj's rape accuser, Seyitan Babatayo. The IGP gave the order in a letter signed on his behalf by his Principal Staff Officer, DCP Idowu Owohunwa and addressed to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Garki. The IGP's letter was sequel to a petition written by Seyitan’s lawyer, Ojoge, Omileye and Partners. In the IGP's letter titled "Re: Petition Against Inspector Abraham, Supol Ugowe and the Entire Police Officers Team at Ikeja, Lagos Division of the Inspector General of Police", the IGP asked that the petition from Seyitan Babatayo's lawyer be addressed. Chinese scientists have warned that pigs are a 'key intermediate host' or 'mixing vessel' for viruses spreading from wild animals into humans and could cause another pandemic if not taken seriously. Experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have been studying outbreaks of swine flu in pig farms across the country and say the latest strain can pass to humans even though only two people are confirmed to have caught the virus, dubbed G4 EA H1N1, since the first outbreak in 2016. Seven years old boy goes missing while playing inside his compound in Abuja

Seven-year-old Adamu Haruna has been declared missing in the Kagini area of Abuja. According to family sources, Haruna who lives with his Uncle, Aliyu Usman, was playing in their compound when he went missing on Friday, June 19. Efforts to find him since that day have proved abortive. The family has printed fliers with his face and name on it but no one has contacted them yet.  Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the FCT police command, Anjuguri Manzah, said efforts are being made to find the boy and reunite him with his family. 

Kidnappers kill medical doctor and his son after collecting N7.5m ransom from his family

Police Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team have arrested two suspects for the kidnap and murder of a Medical Doctor, Audu Benedict, his son and one of his associates in Katsina-ala LGA, Benue State while travelling from Taraba State to Abuja on  March 10, 2019. According to a statement from the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Frank Mba, the suspects, Henry Terkula Gwa, 25, from Donga LGA of Benue State and Terhile Tsavbe, 30, from Gawa village, Katsina-ala LGA of Benue State were arrested on June 6 and 11, 2020, following intense search for the victims and manhunt for the perpetrators by the Police team. Police in search of families of children rescued from child trafficking syndicates

The Nigeria Police Force is currently in search of the families of three children, two girls and a boy, stolen from their families since June 2019. Frank Mba, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, told newsmen on Monday, June 29, that the three children were among six rescued by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in an operation that was launched following reported cases of child theft in the FCT. He said three of the rescued children have been reunited with their parents but the other three, pictured above, are yet to be reunited as their families cannot be located. “We were able to identify the parents of three of the six children and the police have reunited them with their families. Unfortunately until now we have not been able to locate the parents of these three children.” Mba said 

Former French prime minister, François fillon and his wife sentenced to jail for embezzling public funds

Former French prime minister, François Fillon and his Welsh wife, Penelope, were sentenced to jail on Monday for embezzling public funds as part of the “fake job” scandal.  A French court  found Francois guilty of charges of creating a fake job for his wife, using taxpayer money. The 66- year-old was accused of creating a position that paid his wife over €1 million ($1.13 million) in public funds, a charge that cost him his 2017 presidential bid. Fillon's wife, Penelope, was also found guilty of being complicit in the case. He was additionally accused of getting the millionaire owner of a literary magazine to pay his wife €135,000 for "consulting work." . Mr. Fillon was sentenced to five years in prison, three of which were suspended, as well as a €375,000 fine. Fillon was also banned from running for elected office for 10 years.

Legendary Nigerian guitarist, Berkley Ike Jones of the defunct BLO is dead. Berkeley Ike Jones died weeks to his 72nd birthday. He died last night, June 28, in Asaba where he went for a job. Ike first appeared on the Nigerian music scene in the mid-1960s, as the drummer in the Port Harcourt-based teen pop group The Figures. In 1970, at the end of the Nigerian civil war, he signed on as lead guitarist in the rock n’ soul band The Funkees, where his adventurous guitar lines got him noticed by talent scouts who instantly whisked him off to Lagos and installed him in the high profile rock group The Clusters. The Clusters soon morphed into the Afro Collection under the leadership of Tee Mac Iseli, and then into SALT under Ginger Baker. FG slashes marriage licence fees

The Federal Government has approved a reduction in marriage licence fees. Director Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Interior, Mr Mohammed Manga, made this known in a statement on Monday. Manga quoted the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, as making the disclosure in a Public Notice signed by the Permanent Secretary and Principal Registrar of Marriages in Nigeria, Georgina Ehuriah. The minister approved that the reduction of fees chargeable for services related to the Statutory Marriage under the Marriage Act CAP M6 LFN 2004 to commence from Wednesday, July 1. He appealed to stakeholders to take advantage of the reduction in fees to licence their Places of Public Worship. According to him, the fees chargeable for the Issuance of Fresh Marriage Licence to a place of Public Worship has been reduced from N30,000 for two years to N6,000 yearly, payable for five years in the first instance. Operatives of EFCC, Lagos Zonal Office,  have arrested one Babatunde Oyerinde Abidoun, a.k.a. Kashy, for his alleged involvement in cyber crimes. . Abiodun, who is the owner of CashNation Ent. Ltd., a music record label with singer Barry Jhay as one of its signees, was arrested recently at his residence in Lekki Conservative Estate, Lagos. Abiodun, who shuttles between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates, UAE, allegedly used the proceeds of his fraudulent activities to fund his lavish lifestyle. Investigations linked his fraudulent activities to his domestic staff, Thomas Aliu Akwu, who confessed to having different accounts domiciled in UBA, Ecobank, GTB, Zenith Bank and FCMB and also receiving money for his boss through the accounts.

FG okays reopening of schools

BREAKING NEWS The Federal Government has approved what it called “safe reopening” of schools nationwide in the next phase of the gradual easing of lockdown ordered to curtail further spread of COVID-19. It has also lifted the ban placed on interstate travels with effect from July 1, provided such journeys are made outside curfew hours. The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, disclosed these at the ongoing daily briefing of the task force in Abuja on Monday. Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, also said the government has approved the safe resumption of domestic flights in the country. He said the reopening of schools was meant to allow students in graduating classes resume preparation for examinations. Iran issues arrest warrant for trump over the murder of top Iranian general , Qassem soleimani, asks Interpol to help

Iran has issued an arrest warrant and asked Interpol for help in detaining US President Donald Trump and dozens of others over the drone strike that killed a top Iranian general in Baghdad. Tehran prosecutor Ali Alqasimehr said on Monday, June 29, that Trump and more than 30 others who Iran accuses of involvement in the January 3 strike that killed General Qassem Soleimani face "murder and terrorism charges", the semi-official ISNA news agency reported. Apart from Trump's name, Alqasimehr did not identify the other suspects. He stressed that Iran would continue to pursue Trump's prosecution even after his presidency ends. Alqasimehr also was quoted as saying that Iran requested a "red notice" be put out for Trump and the others, which represents the highest level arrest request issued by Interpol. Referee dies after his friend hit him with a juju ring during a match in Iwo

A graduate of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Shuaib Isola, has died after being hit with a magic ring, following a disagreement during a football match he was officiating over the weekend in Iwo, Osun State. One Lateef Ahmed has been arrested by the police in connection with the death. The deceased allegedly collapsed after being hit with the magic ring by his friend, Lateef. According to reports, Lateef hit the deceased following a dispute at St Mary’s Grammar School football field on Sunday. Isola was confirmed dead at the General Hospital, Iwo, where he was rushed to, as all attempts to revive him proved abortive. . . A teenager who raped a girl has been jailed after his parents forced him to the police station and made him to confess when they found he had texted his victim to say sorry. Restaurant worker Jack Evans, 18, forced himself on a virgin and he would have escaped justice because the student never reported the attack. However, when he apologised to her by text two months after the sex attack, his dad Jonathan and his stepmother Sarah Morris, both 47, saw the message and told him to tell police. Body of six year old girl allegedly raped to death , found inside a mosque in kaduna

The body of a six-year-old girl allegedly raped to death by yet-to-be-identified person, has been found inside a mosque located at New Road, Kurmi Mashi by Nnamdi Azikiwe bypass, Kaduna North local government area of Kaduna State. Ahead of the planned reopening of its borders to international travellers on July 1, the European Union Commission has released a list of 54 countries that qualify for travels into Europe and Nigeria is conspicuously absent. Lagos may consider another lockdown as coronavirus cases exceed 23,000

Lagos State Government has said that it may have to consider a fresh lockdown due to the increase in coronavirus cases in the state and the country.⁣ On Friday, June 26, 2020, the total number of confirmed cases of the pandemic in Nigeria rose to 23, 298, with Lagos recording the highest number of cases.⁣ According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Lagos had 9,741 cases of the virus as of Friday.⁣ While speaking at a briefing on Friday, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi said Lagos will not hesitate to consider another lockdown should cases of the pandemic go out of hand.⁣ He said, “We believe we are managing a delicate balance between the public health crisis and the economic livelihood of Lagosians. Suspected herdsmen kidnap nine travellers in ondo, demand N100m ransom from their families

Nine persons traveling from Lagos to Abuja have been abducted by suspected herdsmen along lsua highway in Akoko South East area of Ondo State. A family member of one of the victims, Bamidele Ojo, who confirmed this to Vanguard, said the victims were on board a Toyota Sienna space bus when they were ambushed by the suspected herdsmen.  The victims were allegedly marched into the forest by their abductors after their vehicle was stopped on the highway. Bamidele said the abductors have reached out to the families of the abducted travelers and are demanding N100 million ransom. Spokesperson of the Ondo state police command, Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed the incident and said one of the victims has been rescued. Ikoro said police detectives in the state were working with hunters, local vigilante, and other agencies to ensure the release of the remaining eight victims. 

SARS carried out 82 extra-judical executions in three years - Amnesty international

Amnesty International has criticized the police for allegedly failing to prosecute members of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad whom it accused of engaging in torture of suspects. The group noted that the squad had continued to use torture and other ill-treatment to execute, punish, and extract information from suspects. In a new report, ‘Time to End Impunity,’ released on Thursday, AI said it documented at least 82 cases of torture, ill-treatment, and extra-judicial executions by SARS between January 2017 and May 2020. It said the victims are predominantly males between the ages of 18 and 35, from low-income backgrounds and vulnerable groups.
