90 year old Widow allegedly gang-raped by two men after they stormed her house at night

A 90-year-old widow in India was allegedly gang-raped by two men who stormed into her house at night, a new report by the Times of India has revealed.   According to the report, two men came into her house at night on October 24 and sexually attacked the yet to be named woman.   The elderly woman said they left her "almost half-dead" after the attack.   After she regained her senses the next morning she told her neighbour.   She went to hospital and had medical tests after the attack in the Kanchanpur area in the country's North Tripura district.     The family of the 90-year-old woman took her to a police station and lodged a report against Anjan Nama, 35, and another unidentified man.   Speaking to reporters, the woman said: "Anjan and another man stormed into my house at midnight. Obong of Calabar asks Governor Ayade to step aside

Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Otu has asked Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River state to step aside.    Daily Trust reported that the monarch said this when Liyel Imoke, a former governor of the state paid homage to him.   The Obong blamed Ayade for the vandalism, looting and destruction of public and private property in the state last week. Speaker of the house of representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has stated that federal character should also include age, religion, gender, and not just ethnicity.   He said this while speaking at an event in Abuja on Saturday, October 31. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has described the recent attack on The Nation Newspaper and Television Continental (TVC), during the EndSARS protest in Lagos, as an attack on free speech and democracy. The Minister made the assertion in Lagos on Saturday when he visited the two media organizations in Lagos to commiserate with their management and staff over the attack.He said the action of the arsonists was a premeditated attempt to silence the voice of reason and stifle press freedom. “Therefore, an attack on the Nation or any media house is a direct attack on freedom of speech and also democracy and, honestly, we believe that there is no justification whatsoever for the attack,” he said.

First ever James Bond actor has died at age 90

Scottish actor, Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90. BBC News is reporting. He was best known for his portrayal of James Bond, being the first to bring the role to the big screen and appearing in seven of the spy thrillers. He was largely regarded as being the best actor to have played 007 in the long-running franchise, often being named as such in polls. His acting career spanned decades and his many awards including an Oscar, two Bafta awards and three Golden Globes. Sir Sean's other films included The Hunt for Red October, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Rock. 

Low morale: Return to duty posts or face dismissal - Police Service Commission warns policemen

The Police Service Commission has faulted the refusal of some policemen to return to work following the killing of about 22 cops during the violence that erupted in the wake of the #EndSARS crisis.    The PSC who encouraged the policemen with low morale to put the killing of their colleagues behind them, stated that the Public Service Rules which also applies to members of the Nigeria Police Force, prescribes dismissal for any officer that deserts his job.    The commission averred that the attack on policemen by hoodlums should not be an excuse for them to stay away from work. Reverend Polycarp Zongo, a pastor of the Church of Christ in Nations, Jos, Plateau State, who was kidnapped by the Islamic State In West Africa (ISWAP) around Bauchi-Gombe road, has been released.   Pastor Zongo was released on Friday evening, October 30, through an undisclosed process, officials say.  Details about his release are yet to be disclosed, however, it was gathered that he communicated with his wife to confirm his release.     The pastor, who went missing while travelling to Gombe State for a conference, had appeared in a video this week saying he was abducted by the Islamic State West Africa Province. The Management of University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has released a young woman who was detained in the hospital for six months over unpaid bills.    It was gathered that the patient, Bidemi Taiwo was admitted in the hospital on March 23, 2020. She gave birth to a baby boy through cesearan section but lost the child. Canada plans to bring in more than 1.2M immigrants in the next 3 years

The Canadian Government has announced plans to bring in more than 1.2 million immigrants over the next three years in an effort to use immigration to boost the country's economic recovery from the impacts of COVID-19.    The announcement was made on Friday, October 30, by Immigration Minister, Marco Mendicino in Canada’s Immigration Levels Plans for 2021-2023.    Speaking at a news conference in Ottawa, Mendicino said the federal government aims to accept 401,000 new permanent residents in 2021, another 411,000 in 2022, and then 421,000 in 2023.   According to Mendicino, the numbers also aim to compensate for the shortfall this year due to the pandemic and represent about one percent of Canada's population.   He also stated that immigrants drive the population and economic growth that pays for vital programs such as health care.   "Put simply, we need more workers, and immigration is the way to get there," he said.   “Before the pandemic, our government’s goal to driv

Cristiano Ronaldo finally tests negative for Coronavirus

Juventus striker, Cristiano Ronaldo has finally tested negative for Coronavirus after three positive tests.    Recall the Portuguese international, 35, first tested positive while on international duty with Portugal on October 13. He returned another positive result last week and was made to take another test earlier this week, which also returned positive.    On Friday, the Serie A side announced that Ronaldo has now tested negative in a statement on their official website.    "Cristiano Ronaldo carried out a check with a diagnostic test (swab) for Covid-19," the statement read.   "The exam provided a negative result. The player has, therefore, recovered after 19 days and is no longer subjected to home isolation."   Ronaldo, who missed the club's previous four matches including Wednesday's Champions League match against Barcelona will now be eligible to return for Sunday's clash against Spezia.  

Protect yourselves against attacks- IGP tells police

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has advised police officers across the country to protect themselves against attacks.   Adamu, gave the advice when he visited the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Abuja, today October 30.   The police chief said the officers must protect themselves because they are humans and also have rights. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has awarded scholarship to children of the policemen who died in the violence that eruped in Lagos state few days ago.    The Lagos state government on Wednesday October 28, directed the Lagos State Scholarship Board to award scholarship to the children of the slain officers up to the university level.   It was also learnt that twenty-nine Divisional Police Stations and 17 Police Posts were razed by hoodlums disguising as protesters. NSA: Social media was used to incite violence during #EndSARS protests

Babagana Monguno, national security adviser (NSA), says social media is being used to incite violence in Nigeria. Speaking at a workshop on the 2020 national cybersecurity strategy in Abuja on Wednesday, the NSA said the social media poses increasing challenges of cyber-terrorism. His comments comes a day after Lai Mohammed, minister of information, insisted on the federal government’s  plan to regulate social media  despite criticisms against such move. At least, ten of the 1,993 inmates, who escaped from the Oko Correctional Centre on Airport Road, Benin and the Benin Correctional Centre on Sapele Road, have been re-arrested by the police. The Edo Commissioner of Police, Babatunde Kokumo, paraded the 126 suspected criminals, including the 10 escapees, arsonists and looters of COVID-19 palliatives at the state’s police headquarters in Government Reservation Area (GRA), Benin on Wednesday. FEC approves N2.9 billion for printing of examination papers

The Federal Executive Council has approved N2.9 billion contracts for the printing of sensitive and non-sensitive examination materials.   The approval was granted at the council’s meeting presided over by President Buhari on Wednesday October 28.   Speaking with state house correspondents after the meeting, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, said the printing contracts were awarded to a group of eight printers.   According to the minister, the materials are meant for the Basic Education Certification Examination, the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, and the National Common Entrance, adding that “because of the recent disturbances, we have postponed the examinations that have not taken place.”   The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Adamu Mohammed, disclosed that the council approved N1.6 billion for the rehabilitation of different roads located in the satellite towns of the FCT.   He said the council approved N900,294,304.75 to fix the roads in Gwagwalada Area C

Family Rottweiler dog fatally mauls 1-day-old baby boy

The former Minister of Finance in Nigeria, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has emerged as the new Director General of the World Trade Organization. 2021 budget: FG needs N3.7bn for procurement of quality blood for healthcare sector

National Coordinator of National Blood Transfusion Services (NBTS), Dr Omale Amedu on Tuesday called for the provision of adequate funding for the procurement of quality blood in the healthcare sector. Dr Amedu who gave the charge during the 2021 budget defence session held at the instance of House Committee on Health Services, disclosed that total sum of N3.7 billion is required to meet the blood supply to the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT). While stressing the need for the establishment of special intervention fund to enable the Agency to meet the blood demands of the country, Dr Amedu disclosed that average of N100 million per state to enable it to provide adequate and quality blood to the needs of Nigerians. “We need adequate funding, in fact, we are appealing for a special intervention fund so that all the states can have NBTS. Former  Google  Chief Executive Officer  Eric Schmidt said today at a Wall Street Journal conference that “the context of social networks serving as amplifiers for idiots and crazy people is not what we intended,”  reports Bloomberg  News. Schmidt said social media’s “excesses” would likely results in greater regulation in the coming years. One of the company’s largest shareholders, Schmidt called the  US government suit  against Google “misplaced,” but added, “Unless the industry gets its act together in a really clever way, there will be regulation.” Of the US Justice Department antitrust lawsuit, Schmidt claimed the company was not blocking competition. “I would be careful about these dominance arguments. FG to construct 10 new airports – Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika
