Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state has called for a ban on the movement of cattle from north to the southern part of the country and the middle belt.  The Kano state Governor who met with President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina state alongside other All Progressives Congress (APC) governors, expressed hope of this stopping the clash between farmers and herders in the country.  Ganduje also disclosed that they are constructing a settlement for herders in a forest near Kano’s border with Katsina. INTERPOL arrest two kano based suspects for international child pornography

Operatives of the Nigeria Police INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, have arrested two Kano based suspects, Ibrahim Muazzam Mohammad Aminu and Mohammad Tahir Umar, for engaging in international child pornography. Force spokesperson, CP Frank Mba, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, said investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a trans-border/international child porn syndicate which sexually abuse and take undue advantage of underage girls and disseminate the video recordings of the illicit sexual act on an international social media Whatsapp group chat known as “Pervertidos”, owned and managed by a Brazilian called Adriana. A 12-year-old mentally disabled girl was allegedly gang-raped by seven elderly men said to be 'boys' of some high profile politicians in Sokoto state. The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Sokoto State, Suleiman Usman, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, said the state government had put in place a formidable team of lawyers to prosecute the rape case.  Usman said he would personally lead the team in order to ensure that justice is done for the victim and ruled out any favour to the suspects.  Usman explained that the delay in prosecuting the case was caused by efforts to establish a strong case against the suspects. The Nigerian Army has disbanded its legal team and also pulled out of investigative hearing of the Lagos State Judicial Panel investigating the shooting of #EndSARS protesters at Lekki Tollgate on October 20, 2020.  Making the announcement on Saturday January 30 after more evidences backed claims of Nigerian soldiers shooting peaceful protesters at the tollgate, a member of the army counsel, S.N. Agwhe notified the Panel of Akinlolu Kehinde, head of the army legal team submitting a memo about the disbandment.  Agwhe said “We do not have any further mandate to represent the army in any subsequent proceedings." The panel chairman Doris Okuwobi who commented on the development warned the Nigerian army that they can't claim denial of fair hearing when the panel submits its findings to the government. A doctor at Reddington hospital,Babajide Lawson has disclosed that he treated people with gunshots injuries after the Lekki tollgate shooting of October 20, 2020. Police arrest suspected female kidnapper who allegedly attempted to abduct three school children in ekiti

Operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command have arrested a suspected female kidnapper, Mrs Kazeem Tawa, who allegedly attempted to abduct three school children in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.  Spokesperson of the command, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident on Friday, said the suspect woman attempted to kidnap the children by asking with them to help carry her bag containing some items to an unknown destination. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has seized a consignment of cocaine and heroin worth over N30b at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos. One of the seizures, 26.840 kilogrammes of cocaine, is the biggest single seizure from an individual in the past 15 years. A retired Commissioner of Police, Yomi Onashile, has died of COVID19 complications. He died today January 30 at the Isolation centre at Olodo, in Ibadan, Oyo State where he was being treated.   Onashile was said to have been on admission at the COVID-19 Isolation Centre since January 24.   Before his retirement from the Nigeria Police Force, the deceased served as Commissioner of Police in Abia, Oyo, Ekiti and Lagos states.   When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the retired police commissioner’s death.   May his soul rest in peace, Amen. 

BBC actor hanged himself because he was jobless during lockdown

An actor, Luke Westlake, 26, who appeared in BBC crime drama 'Luther' alongside Idris Elba hanged himself while out of work during the first Covid-19 lockdown, an inquest into his death has heard. After graduating from one of the UK’s top drama schools in 2017, the actor went on to appear in Luther and BBC dramas Doctors and No Offence. But an inquest heard today, January 29 revealed that during the first national lockdown in 2020, the actor was stressed about being out of work and was suffering from a long distance relationship breakdown. Luke tried to take his own life in April and again in June, the assistant coroner heard. Just over a week after the first attempt in June, Luke messaged his ex-girlfriend, Hannah Llewelyn. In the text he threatened to kill himself. On the morning of  June 18, he was found dead. Ban open grazing in the South east within 14 days - Nnamdi kanu tells governors

Leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to South-East Governors to ban all forms of open grazing in the region in compliance with the 1969 statutory law of Nigeria. Kanu gave the ultimatum while commending governors of the South West who recently announced a ban on open grazing in the state as part of measures to stop the incessant clash between Farmers and herdsmen. Nurse tests positive for coronavirus after receiving his second dose of COVID19 vaccine

An Ottawa nurse has tested positive for COVID-19 about two weeks after getting vaccinated.  The Nurse, Santosh Baral said he was "speechless" when his results came back positive for COVID-19 last week after a routine test. He was among Ottawa’s front-line health-care workers to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in the first week of the local distribution campaign in mid-December. The Nurse said he received his first dose on December 18, 2020, and his second dose on Janaury 8, 2021.  A few days after he received the second injection, Baral said he tested negative for the coronavirus as part of a routine test on January 13. But a week later, on January. 20, the test came back positive. Northern governors to take covid19 vaccine in public

Chairman of the Northern Governors' Forum and Governor of Plateau state, Simon Lalong has announced that the 19 Northern States Governors will be publicly taking the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine when they arrive in the country. Lalong said this in his address at a webinar organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, where the safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine were discussed. The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government Prof. Danladi Atu, said the Northern Governors will be publicly taking the vaccine to dispel fears surrounding it.  He said “We – the Northern Governors – have agreed to take the first doses of the vaccines.”

36 year old bus driver arrested for allegedly defiling four year old pupil

The police in Kano state have arrested a resident of the state, Bilya Abdullahi, who stabbed his pregnant ex-wife, Shafa’atu Saleh, and her elder brother, Ado Saleh, shortly after a Sharia Court dissolved his marriage to Shafa'atu. Shafa'atu had approached the Rano Upper Shariah court to dissolve their marriage on grounds that Bilya maltreated her all through their stay as a couple. The court heard Shafa'atu's prayers and dissolved their marriage with an order that she returns the N20,000 dowry paid to her by Bilya. However, shortly after the judgment was passed, Bilya, who seemed angered by the verdict, allegedly brought out a knife from his pocket and stabbed his e-wife who is 9-month pregnant, inflicting several injuries on her body. UAE doctors use 3D technology to save Nigerian boy foot from amputation

A team of doctors at Thumbay University Hospital United Arab Emirates have used a 3D printing technology to carry out a foot reconstruction surgery on a nine year-old Nigerian boy’s leg. The boy needed the surgery after suffering a gunshot. The boy’s family members disclosed that all the doctors consulted in Nigeria and UAE said the boy’s right leg needed to be amputated after he sustained a severe injury from a gunshot wound in Nigeria. However, doctors at Thumbay University Hospital used the 3D printing technology to carry out the complex surgical procedure which saved the nine year old’s right leg from amputation. The boy's traumatised parents had reached out to Dr Faisal Ameer, the head of plastic and reconstructive Surgery at Thumbay University Hospital, Ajman, who assured them their son's leg could be saved. Engineering graduate drowns in a river 3 months after completing youth service

Mechanical Engineering graduate of the Delta State Polytechnic (Delta Poly), Otefe-Oghara, Delta State, Friday Abiligo Orhomre, has drowned in a river three months after he completed his compulsory national youth service programme.    It was gathered that the speedboat he was travelling in with his mother and siblings capsized in Ughoton River, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State while they were returning from the farm.     According to Nigerian Tribune, Friday who completed his compulsory NYSC service in October 2020, reportedly drowned while his mother and siblings managed to swim to the shore.      The young man was said to have objected to making the trip to the farm earlier but was encouraged by some of his family members.   It was further learnt that divers have begun to search the river to locate his body. 

Presidency slams transparency international over Nigeria's poor corruption rating; says it's not an accurate portrayal of Nigeria's situation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office, on Thursday, January 28, 2021, arrested eight men suspected to be internet fraudsters in Osogbo, Osun State.

The suspects, identified as Akinrinmade Adepoju Sunday and his brother Akinrinmade Adeniyi were arrested in their room and parlor apartment. Others are Dennis Oluwamuyiwa, Oni Oluwaseyi, Adeyemo Adeyinka, Aborisade Abayomi, Goodluck Olatayo, and Gbolahan Sodiq. The agency said they were arrested at their hideout in Ayegbami area of the ancient town by operatives, working on actionable intelligence on their alleged criminal activities. Items recovered from the suspects include two cars, laptops and mobile phones, They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded. In a related development, the Lagos Zonal office of the Commission also announced the conviction of four internet fraudsters. The convicts are: Christopher Blessed Unimke, Raji Adeshola Quadri, Raji Ayoola Yusuf, and Adebowale Kehinde. More chibok girls escape from boko haram captivity

Some of the Chibok girls who were abducted and held by Boko Haram insurgents since 2014 have reportedly escaped.  A parent told Daily Trust that some of them were contacted by officials handling the girls disappearance and that the affected parents might be invited to Maiduguri on a later date. Halima Ali who was married off to a Boko Haram commander under the instruction of the insurgents' leader Abubakar Shekau few months after their abduction from their boarding school in Chibok, is believed to be one of the escapees.  It was gathered that after the news broke, friends and family members trooped to the family house of Halima to congratulate the family on the good news. Secretary of Chibok Parents Association, Lawal Zannah also disclosed that he was informed that some of the girls had escaped but is yet ascertain the number. Lagos-based lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) has declared the eviction order issued by popular Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, well known as Sunday Igboho, to Fulani herders in the Ibarapa LGA of Oyo State as unlawful and wrong. Igboho issued the seven-day eviction order following alleged kidnappings, killings and invasion of farmlands in Ibarapaland by the herders. Pfizer-BioNTech says its covid19 vaccine is effective against UK and South Africa variants

  Pfizer and BioNTech has said that its Coronavirus vaccines are effective against the variants that have emerged in the United Kingdom and South Africa. In a statement released on Thursday January 28, the two firms said the "small differences" detected in tests comparing the original virus and the recent versions "are unlikely to lead to a significant reduction in the effectiveness of the vaccine".  AFP reported that while Moderna's Coronavirus vaccine also appears to work against the new and more infectious variants of COVID-19 found in the UK and South Africa, early laboratory tests suggested antibodies triggered by the COVID-19 vaccine can recognise and fight the new variants. More studies are however needed to confirm this is true for people who have been vaccinated. IGP orders probe of unmarried policewoman sacked for getting pregnant

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has called for an investigation into the report of an unmarried police officer, Olajide Omolola, who was recently dismissed from service for getting pregnant. Omolola who passed out of the Police Training School on April 24 2020, was sacked  because she got pregnant out of wedlock and a letter with reference number CJ:4161/EKS/IY/Vol.2/236, DTO:181330/01/2021, was sent to an OC in Ekiti state for her to be made to return all police properties. The letter also asked that her salary should be stopped immediately. Her dismissal was hinged on a section of the Police Act that bars unmarried policewomen from getting pregnant while in service. The section has since been repealed in the amended Police Act that was signed into law by President Buhari in September 2020. President Buhari has signed a new law prescribing a six-month jail term for anyone found guilty of flouting any of the COVID19 protocols.   The president signed the COVID19 health protection regulations 2021 in Abuja on Wednesday, January 27. The signed law provides a legal framework for the prosecution of any defaulter. The law states that an offence under these Regulations is punishable, on summary conviction, by a fine or a term of six months imprisonment or both in accordance with Section 5 of the Quarantine Act.   The law adds that security agents including Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, and other relevant Local Government, State and Federal Government agencies have been mandated to ensure the enforcement of the these Regulations.   The details of the COVID19 health protection regulations 2021 states;   CORONAVI

China rolls out anal swab coronavirus tests, says it's more accurate than throat method

Authorities in China have introduced anal swabs as a new type of coronavirus test that could detect the virus more accurately as they struggle to contain rising infections ahead of the Lunar New Year celebrations.   This comes after local outbreaks in the country led to China shutting off many of its northern cities.   Before, coronavirus tests were mostly being carried out with nose and throat swabs.   However, the new anal test involves a swab being inserted around two to three centimetres (0.8 to 1.2 inches) into the rectum and being rotated multiple times. The swab is then taken out and sealed in a sample container, a process reported to take around 10 seconds.   Li Tongzeng, a senior doctor from Beijing’s Youan hospital, says the anal swab method “can increase the detection rate of infected people”.   He says this is because virus traces remain longer in the anus than in the respiratory tract, where you collect nasal and throat swabs.   He told CCTV: "We found tha

How fulani herdsmen killed my farm guard and took away his heart - Afenifere chieftain olu falae recounts

  Chief Olu Falae, chieftain of Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-cultural group, has narrated how Fulani herdsmen attacked his farm in Ondo State after kidnapping him and killing his security guard, identified only as Ayo.  Falae, a former secretary to the military government of Ibrahim Babangida, said that the killer herdsmen butchered his farm guard and took away his heart and rifle, which was registered with the police. Man arrested for allegedly impregnating his wife's 15 year old friend

  A 22-year-old security guard who impregnated his wife’s 15-year-old friend has been charged with defilement at Kibera law courts, Kenya. The guard is accused of luring the minor to his cousin’s house in Kawangware, Nairobi where he allegedly defiled her.  The minor is said to have been his wife’s friend and a regular visitor at her house before the suspect started ensnaring her. She reportedly eventually agreed to be his lover after he promised to make her his wife and take her to his rural home. After weeks at her parents’ home, it was discovered she was pregnant. The guard denied the charges before senior principal magistrate Esther Bhoke, and demanded that his wife’s interest in the case be investigated. The suspect was freed on a bond of Sh300,000, with a surety of a similar amount. The case will be mentioned on February 9. 

Hisbah's arrests organizers of sex party in bauchi

  About 6 youths accused of organizing sex orgies and fomenting trouble in Dolam village, in Tafawa Balewa local Government Area of the state have been arrested by the Bauchi state Hisbah.  The suspects identified as Abdurrauf Kabir 25, Dabo Yusuf 26, Abdurrazak Isah 24, Habu Umar 27, Yaron Nuhu-Maikaji 30, and Abdurrashid Shehu 31 who allegedly planned using a primary school building in the area for the sex party, were accused of organizing disco parties locally called Gwaidu, during which they lured young girls into illicit sexual relationships and at times forcefully.  Malam Aminu Idris, the permanent commissioner in-charge of Hisbah and Sharia implementation said the suspects were arrested after they were alerted.  Their parents were summoned and they were all counselled alongside the culprits, and made to sign an undertaking against repeating the offence.

300 female soldiers deployed to kaduna-Abuja highway in first female officers internal security operations

300 female officers have been deployed to Abuja-Kaduna highway as part of measures to curb the menace of banditry and kidnapping along the road and other surrounding communities. While this is the first time female officers are being deployed for internal security operations, their role will be to complement the existing operations along the highway and the environs. The female officers have been drafted into the Operation Thunder Strike of the Nigerian Army which is currently carrying on a special operation on the Kaduna-Abuja general area. Governor Nasir El-Rufai who spoke at a ceremony to welcome the first batch of 100 female officers and handing over of their residential accommodation to the Nigerian Army in Kaduna state, expressed hope of deployment of more soldiers to the Abuja-Kaduna highway consolidating the successes recorded so far. 

Man runs amok, kills his wife and daughter in Anambra

 The police in Anambra state have arrested a 28-year-old man identified as Chukwuemeka Obijofa, of Ofufe Nza village in Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra State, for allegedly killing his wife and their daughter on Tuesday, January 26. A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, Haruna Mohammed, states that the suspect allegedly ran amok and attacked his wife, 26-year-old Chisom Chukwuemeka, and their four-year-old daughter, Amanda Chukwuemeka, with a shovel on their heads. Haruna said the suspect equally used the same object to injure a vigilante man who tried to rescue the victims.  According to the police spokesperson, police detectives visited the scene and rushed the victims to the joint hospital in Ozubulu for medical attention where the doctors on duty certified them dead. Reduction on imported vehicles duties to begin next week -customs

The Nigeria Customs Service on Tuesday January 26, announced that a slash on imported vehicles duties will begin next week.  Comptroller-General of Customs, Hameed Ali who told newsmen that they are expecting an official communication from the finance ministry on the matter, added that the vehicle tariff reduction is contained in the 2020 Finance Act and initiated by the NCS to ease the cost of transportation in Nigeria. Hameed said “We are the proponents of the new tariff. I’ve been torn apart by many people criticising it, saying I used my connection to get it done. But it is in the overall interest of Nigeria. “Now, it has become a law. We are now waiting for the finance minister to give us a formal conveyance of that Act. 6 witches arraigned in yola court over health of 3 year old girl

Six self-confessed ‘witches’ have been arraigned before a court in Yola, Adamawa state capital over the failing health of a 3-year-old girl.    The suspects; a  60-year-old woman, one other woman still at large identified simply as Dudu and five minors allegedly used demonic powers to afflict a three-year-old girl with an illness.   The 60-year-old identified as Halima Jonta and the minors were rounded up and brought to the Criminal Area Court 1, Yola, by a community leader and Sarkin Mayu Adamawa, Kabiru Garba after learning of the state of health of the three-year-old.   In court, Halima who revealed that she and the five minors aged between four and six years, as well as a woman on the run, had bewitched the three-year-old girl, also disclosed that she and two other women had killed seven people in the seven years she had been in witchcraft practice.   The kids who also confessed in court, said Halima Jonta and the other woman now at large asked them to tie the three-yea

Osun police identify one of the DSS operatives allegedly involved in killing of policeman

One of the Department of State Services operatives who is allegedly involved in the killing of a policeman in Osun state, has been identified by the state police command.  The DSS operative was identified as David Olowoporoku and it was alleged that he carried out the attack on the policeman Rauf Fawale, alongside two other operatives.  Osun police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola told newsmen that the DSS leadership had informed the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Wale Olokode of ongoing disciplinary action against those complicit in the matter. Opalola said “We heard that the deceased was beaten by three personnel of the DSS. He was beaten by one David Olowoporoku and two others.
