Ex-first lady cousin in police custody for attempted murder

A cousin to former First lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan, Mr Victor Oba, has been arrested for alleged attempted murder. Oba was arrested for allegedly attempting to kill his ex-lover, Seigha Atia with his car. Oba, who is the Manager of Aridolf Hotels and Spars, was said to have hit the 23-year-old Atia with his Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) damaging her left leg beyond treatment. He was said to have hit her and left her for dead before zooming off with his car. According to investigations Oba was apprehended and taken to the Azikoro Police Station after the act was discovered. Though reports indicated that influential persons were mounting pressure on the police to release Oba and sweep the matter under the carpet through bargaining for settlement the police had insisted on ensuring justice for the victim. An Igbosere High Court has fixed February 7 for the adoption of final written addresses in a case of a N45 million property dispute involving a top Lagos state civil servant, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyitolu. Director-General of the Lagos state Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Oke-Osanyitolu and his former lover, Ms. Olaide Ibraheem are in court over the ownership of the plum property. Trump imposes immigrant visa ban on Nigeria

US President Donald Trump has imposed an immigrant visa ban on Nigeria and six other countries, earlier confirming media reports on the policy. Immigrant visas are issued to those who want to relocate to the US. It also leads to the issuance of permanent residency. The Wall Street Journal is reporting  that Eritrea, Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan were also affected in the new ban. However, the ban is not expected to adversely affect the regular visitor visa, although there may be restrictions. Chad Wolf, acting secretary of the department of homeland security, said the new immigration restrictions are designed to “address security concerns in the way the banned countries track their own citizens, share information with the U.S. and cooperate on immigration matters”. Fire guts moving truck along Lagos-Ibadan expressway

A 30 ton crane truck has caught fire along Lagos-Ibadan highway in Ogun State. DAILY POST learnt that the crane truck, belonging to Buildwell Company, caught fire while in transit at Redeemed Youth Camp outbound Lagos on Friday afternoon. The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps confirmed the incident TRACE Spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said: “motorists plying the axis are implored to play safe and obey traffic diversionary measures put in place by TRACE Corps and other safety agencies around the traffic corridor.” Firefighters are trying to put out the fire as of the time of filing this report. Lassa Fever: Enugu Govt confirms death of pregnant woman

The Enugu State Government, Friday, confirmed that a pregnant woman has died of Lassa Fever in the State. DAILY POST earlier reported that a patient died of the disease at the  University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku Ozalla.  On the whole, 6 suspected cases were reported out of which 3 were confirmed. The third victim, a 24 year old female youth corper, who just returned from Benue State survived the attack and is responding to treatment. These were disclosed at a press conference jointly addressed by the Enugu state ministries for Information, Health, Education, Water Resources and Agriculture on Friday at the state Secretariat. The pregnant woman, who died from the Lassa fever attack, was as a result of reporting late to health facilities. Forgery:court grants firmer punch editor N2m bail

An Ikeja Special Offence Court has granted N2 million bail to a former editor of Punch Newspapers, Azubuike Ishekwene, accused of forgery by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Justice Mojisola Dada ruled on Friday that Mr Ishiekwene must provide two sureties who are owners of landed property within the jurisdiction of the court. The judge also granted Ishiekwene’s co-defendants – Olalekun Abdul and Adeyinka Adewale – bail in the sum of N10 million and N2 million respectively. She said the co-defendants should also provide two sureties with landed property within jurisdiction of the court. “All the defendants should submit their international passport to the court registrar and are given two weeks grace to perfect their bail or they will have to forfeit their temporary bail,” Justice Dada said. Two people in UK test positive for coronavirus

Health officials in Britain said on Friday that two people had tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the first confirmed cases in the country since the deadly outbreak began in China. “We can confirm that two patients in England, who are members of the same family, have tested positive for coronavirus,” said Chris Whitty, Chief Medical Officer for England, adding they were getting “specialist care”.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) approved an increased monthly allowance to N33,000 and corpers are celebrating as the alerts starts dropping. President Muhammadu Buhari in April 2019 signed into law an increase in the new minimum wage and NYSC has approved the monthly allowance of Corps members to N33,000. The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, made this known at the NYSC Secretariat in Bauchi. The development was also confirmed by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare, who gave no further details on the matter. Nigerian embassy in China still has johnatan as president on its website nearly 5 years after buhari resumed office

56 months after Muhammadu Buhari resumed office as the President of Nigeria, the Nigerian embassy in China which is headed by Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda still displays former President Goodluck Jonathan as the President of the country on its website.  Asides displaying Goodluck Jonathan as the President of Nigeria in the 'About Us' section of its website with a URL of 'https://beijing.ngembassy.org/', former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali is also displayed as the "current" Minister of Foreign Affairs on its home page. US Embassy reportedly denies bishop oyedepo visa

The founder of Faith Tabernacle in Ota, Ogun state and Living Faith Church Worldwide, otherwise known as Winners’ Chapel International, Bishop David Oyedepo, was reportedly denied a visa by the Lagos office of the Embassy of the United States of America [USA] on Thursday, 30th January 2020. Man Arrested for chaining and torturing wives in katsina

A middle-aged man simply identified as Samaila, has been arrested by men of the Katsina state police command for chaining his wives, Fatima Salisu and Hadiza Musa, and subjecting them to inhumane treatments in his home in Yannadabaiyye village in the Rimi Local Government Area of the state, for over 10 months. According to the police, Samaila's evil deeds came to light when Hadiza's mother paid them a surprise visit. Not meeting with her daughter, Hadiza's mother pleaded to take away a sewing machine she bought for her daughter who isn't using it. Samaila's refusal led to an argument which degenrated into a fight. Hadiza's mother went on to report the assault to the police at the Rimi Police headquarters. The World Health Organisation (WHO) thursday declared a global emergency on the outbreak of the New Coronavirus, whose eruption first started in the Chinese town of Wuhan. The global health coordinator said the disease now represents a risk beyond China, where the first outbreak occurred last month. thursday’s declaration represented a U-turn in WHO’s pronouncement last week to delay such a declaration, a report by the New York Times said. ONLY varsity teachers captured on the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) will get alert for their January salary, the Federal Government said on Thursday. The IPPIS has been a subject of controversy between teachers’ umbrella body – Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) – and the Federal Government. The payment of tertiary institutions’ lecturers will begin today, it was learnt yesterday. The Nation confirmed that the January salary of tertiary institutions’ lecturers, usually paid in bulk, will only be paid to those on the payroll system. The government had warned that any worker not captured under the IPPIS would not be paid the January salary, based on the advice from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) to withhold the salaries of erring employees. Armed soldiers from the 7 Division, Nigerian Army, on Thursday stormed the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Borno state and arrested one of the reporters of Daily Trust, Mr. Olatunji Omirin. The three soldiers, two in mufti and one in the Nigerian Army uniform armed with gun, arrested and handcuffed Omirin at 4:40pm. They had earlier stormed the Daily Trust Regional Office twice before invading the NUJ secretariat to arrest the journalist. Daily Trust reports that it is exactly one year and 24 days after armed soldiers invaded the same Regional Office and whisked away the Bureau Chief, Uthman Abubakar, and Correspondent, Ibrahim Sawab.

soldier beat,kill man after accusing him of stealing car battery

Soldiers of 7 Division of Nigerian Army  attached to Wolf Officer Mess, GRA, Maiduguri, Borno State, have beaten and killed a young man, Opowgu Peter, after falsely accusing him of stealing generator battery. According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred on Sunday evening at the Wolf Mess when Peter's car refused to start and then he removed that of a generator around to start his car and returned it immediately. Peter was however, accused of stealing the battery by the military men. He was brutalized and left for the dead The victim eventually died on Wednesday morning at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. Three soldiers are said to have been arrested over the incident.

BREAKING:storey building on fire at ketu,Lagos

At around 5pm on Thursday, a building at Ile-ile bus stop, Ikosi Ketu, Lagos opposite Delta Crown was seen on fire. The cause of the fire in the  storey-building  is yet to be unravelled at the time of publishing this report. Bystanders could be seen pointing fingers at the building on fire without any firefighter in sight.

Lagos Govt,Chinese embassy agree to quarantine returning Chinese citizens

The Lagos State Government has reached an agreement with the Chinese Embassy to ensure that Chinese citizens remain in their country for now to avert the spread of coronavirus in the state. Professor Akin Abayomi the state Commissioner for Health, said the government and the Chinese Embassy agreed also that those citizens who choose to return from China will be quarantined for about ten to fourteen days. The commission also stated that the state government is working with the World Health Organization in combating the disease. He also announced that some phone lines had been made available in case of any emergency. Prof Abayomi further advised that anyone with symptoms of the disease should visit any of the general hospitals.

Maid pushes child in her care,leaving her bleeding seriously

A relative has gone online to show the injury inflicted on her sister's child by the house help. In a photo shared on Facebook, the child is seen with a bandage on her head and blood stains on her school uniform. The Facebook user who shared the story said the child is just 2. She had returned from school and was still in her school uniform when the maid pushed her and she hit her head on the sharp edge of a wall, splitting her scalp. The girl bled so much and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment and an X-ray. See below.

presidential aide trolls,"Blame the useless mother who trained you"

Social Media Aide to the President, Lauretta Onochie called the mother of a troll “useless” after he called her tweets useless. A troll who was verbal about his dislike for the presidential aide after seeing a tweet from her wrote, “How does this woman and her useless tweets steadily appear on my Timeline for God’s sake…” His tweet didn’t go unnoticed as Lauretta Onochie indulged him, she responded by calling his mother “useless”. She wrote; Did I mention you. Blame your useless mother who trained you to follow useless tweets! He responded; This are the Kind of people they use Tax Payers money to pay Salary. A supposed Media Aide to the President, behaving like departmental P.R.O.. 藍藍藍藍.
