Any gathering where people clap and dance uncontrollably paves way for the devil - Cleric, Adeniyi Oluwabiyi says

Venerable Adeniyi Oluwabiyi, the minister-in-charge and head of District 4, Holy Flock of Christ Church in Ibadan, Oyo State, has explained why clapping and dancing is not allowed in the church.   He also explained why collection of offering is not allowed in the church.   Oluwabiyi, in an interview with Tribune, acknowledged that there are similarities between his church, the Anglican Church and Cherubim & Seraphim Church. But explained that there are differences and he went ahead to point out these differences.   He said: "We have some similarities, but there are obvious differences. We and C&S are both white garment churches, but in our church, we don’t clap. We have a way of expressing our joy."   He continued: "The setting is Anglican, but our mode of worship is different. Benue varsity Associate Professor stabbed to death by unknown armed men

A lecturer with the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi (UAM)  Karl Kwaghger, was brutally murdered by unknown armed men on Saturday, November 28. Kwaghger, an Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering department, was found in a pool of his blood at the premises of the JS Tarka Foundation in the Benue state capital. It was gathered that the deceased was cornered to a dark side of the street by four men around 9:30pm opposite IBB square. The assailants hit him on the head with a hard object, then stabbed him severally and slit his throat.  The killers reportedly made away with his Avenza car and mobile phones.  The spokesperson of the police command in Benue state, Catherine Anne, who confirmed the incident said the corpse has been deposited at the mortuary while investigations are ongoing.  The Head, Information, Protocol and Public Relations Unit of the institution, Mrs Rosemary Waku, confirmed the murder but said they are yet to get full details on the incident.

Suspected kidnapper nabbed after boarding a vehicle owned by one of his victims

A suspected kidnapper, pictured above, has been nabbed after mistakenly boarding   a commercial vehicle owned by one of his victims in Sokoto state.   The driver who was kidnapped along Kankara in Katsina state while returning from Kano about two months ago, reportedly spent three weeks in captivity and was released after paying an undisclosed amount of money as ransom.   Daily Trust reported that the suspect was recognised by the victim when he boarded his vehicle on his way to Kano state.   A National Union of Road Transport Worker (NURTW) member said;    “The driver was quick to identify him because the incident happened not too long ago.  “After identifying him, he alerted our leaders who in turned informed the nearest police outpost.”   It was learnt that the driver was asked to move towards Kwannawa motor park in Dange-Shuni local government area of the state, where the car was blocked by police. 25 million Nigerians to pay N4,000 monthly for solar system — Presidency

An estimated 25 million Nigerians are expected to pay about N4,000 monthly over a 3-year period to benefit from the Federal Government’s Solar Home Systems that will commence this week. The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, November 29. According to Akande, the Federal Government will from next week commence the process of installation of five million solar home systems in underserved and off-grid communities across the country. The installation is in continuation of the implementation of the government’s Economic Sustainability Plan. Akande disclosed that an important aspect of the scheme is the option of outright ownership by beneficiaries at a cost ranging from N1,500 per week to N4,000 monthly depending on the capacities, for a period of 3 years, noting that the arrangement allows as many as 25 million Nigerians to own personal solar systems in their respective homes.  “The progr

The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon, says that no fewer than 110 farmers were killed in Saturday, November 28 attack on rice farms in Zabarmari community in Borno state.   Earlier reports claim 43 persons were killed in the attack.   However, in a statement released on Sunday afternoon, the UN humanitarian coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon, said at least 110 persons were ruthlessly killed in the attack.   “I am outraged and horrified by the gruesome attack against civilians carried out by non-state armed groups in villages near Borno State capital Maiduguri. At least 110 civilians were ruthlessly killed and many others were wounded in this attack. Suspected armed robber arrested in Adamawa while trying to smuggle stolen car into Cameroon

Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber, Salisu Abubakar while trying to smuggle a stolen Toyota Corolla into Cameroon.    Spokesperson of the command, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, November 27, said the suspect was the leader of a robbery gang that attacked a man and snatched his car in Jos.    "On the 18/9/2020 the command received report that a syndicate of armed robbers attacked and robbed an innocent citizen of his vehicle at Lamingo Roundabout, Jos, Plateau State. We need N81 million to cut grass in abuja stadium- sports minister

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare has revealed that it will cost the ministry N81m to cut the grass and clear the weed that have taken over the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. He stated this recently while speaking during the one-day seminar organised by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) FCT chapter. According to him, the ministry approached the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) for assessment in the stadium, which was built in 2003 with N53 billion on a 29 hectares (72 acres) of land. Lagos Judicial Panel: Man recounts how SARS officers allegedly shot at him and killed his girlfriend

A man identified as Emmanuel Akomafuwe, appeared before the Lagos state Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Saturday November 28 where he recounted how he was allegedly shot at and his girlfriend simply identified as Adaugo, was allegedly killed by men of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) around 7 pm on April 13, 2019.   Akomafuwe, who was the first petitioner in today’s hearing, said he was driving with his girlfriend when men of the disbanded police unit stopped him. He told the panel that when he sought to know why they were stopped, an argument ensued and he was shot in the head by a police officer, he later came to know as Inspector Dan Ojo. He said the inspector also shot his girlfriend, Adaugo in the stomach and leg.   According to Akomafuwe, after the shooting, the police officers who were six in number, took to their heels and left them at the scene to die. Man arrested for alleged kidnap and murder of teenager in Kano

A man identified as Anas Sa’idu has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a 16-year-old boy identified as Tijjani Kabiru.   Kano police spokesperson, DSP Abdullahi Haruna said the incident occurred at Kwanar Gwarmai Village in the Bebeji Local Government Area of the state.   He said the command received a complaint about the kidnap from the victim’s father, Alhaji Kabiru on November 9, and it was learnt that the suspect demanded for a N1.3 million ransom and N20,000 recharge card from the victim’s parents.   Sa'idu was however arrested by men of Operation Puff Adder on Nov. 23 at Kwanar Gwarmai Village in Bebeji. Two men arrested for selling decapitated heads of murdered policemen for N1000

Two men identified as Aliu Mubarak and Adewale Abiodun have been arrested by the Oyo state police in connection with the killing, dismemberment and selling of decapitated heads of policemen for N1000.   The suspects were arrested after one Oladipupo Ifakorede confessed to buying the heads from the duo for money ritual purpose.   The two policemen identified as Ajibola Adegoke and Rotimi Oladele, were among the police officers killed in the aftermath of the EndSARS protests hijacked by suspected hoodlums. A lawyer representing #EndSARS protesters at the Lagos state Judicial panel on Inquiry, Adesina Ogunlana, has called on the panel to invite the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, over the camera he found at the Lekki tollgate on Sunday, October 25.   Fashola had accompanied some South-West governors and Ministers to Lagos to commiserate with the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, over the massive destruction of lives and properties that took place in the wake of the hijacked #EndSARS protest. While taking a tour of some of the public facilities destroyed, Fashola found a camera which he said would help in the investigation.    At the resumed hearing of the panel on Friday, November 27, Ogunlana told the chairman of the panel, Retired Justice Doris Okuwobi, that the former Minister needs to be summoned so he can explain the circumstances in which he found a camera at the tollgate five days after the shooting incident.   He averred that the visit to the tollgate on Octobe

A woman allegedly killed her mother and chopped the body into pieces in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom.   According to an eyewitness, Emmanuel Umanah, who posted the photos from the crime scene, the shocking incident happened at Umoh Obot road off Nto Akpan Inyang Street in Ikot Ekpene.   Some of the photos shows the suspect carrying the body pieces in a bowl before she was tied up and bundled into a police van.  

Bayelsa Police shoot three women in a bid to disperse traffic .

There was rising tension on Wednesday, in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, over the indiscriminate shooting of three women, identified as Alice Azaghene, Mrs Ebinipiri Onojamadu, and Mudufuro Blessing by a team of policemen on patrol duty along the popular Tombia market area of the state, causing serious injuries in the legs and some parts of their body. . . According to reports, the policemen allegedly opened fire on roadside market women over the alleged cause of traffic gridlock that delayed their escort van from passing through the area. . It was gathered that the accused policemen, numbering six, came down from their van and started shooting at the traders and pedestrians to leave the roadside in order to make way for their vehicle to pass freely. . Governor Ganduje orders LG election contestants to undergo compulsory drug test

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has ordered all cleared contestants in the forthcoming local government elections to undergo a compulsory drug test.    The state commissioner for information, Muhammad Garba who disclosed this ahead of the elections scheduled to hold January 16, said the decision was part of the government’s policies to rid Kano of illicit substance abuse.   Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to tackle drug abuse among political leaders, Garba added that the state government would not hesitate to issue necessary disciplinary measures against ”anyone found with a trace of illicit substance including a compulsory recommendation for rehabilitation”.

Nothing to forgive - Soyinka speaks on relationship with Gowon years after he arrested him and placed him in solitary confinement

Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka has commented on his relationship with former Head of State Yakubu Gowon who on August 1967 arrested and placed him in solitary confinement just as the Civil War started.   The playwright who was detained by the Gowon government for two years in the wake of the Nigerian Civil War, told Channels Television that there is nothing to forgive.    Soyinka said;    “We communicate whenever possible, he came for my birthday in Abeokuta here. FG reaches out to Niger Republic and US in search for Maina

The Federal Government has reached out to Niger Republic and the United States of America in search of ex-Chairman of Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT) Abdulrasheed Maina who is believed to have jumped bail.   FG contacted the countries in its efforts to execute the arrest warrant issued by a court in Abuja against the former Pension boss.    This was revealed in court today November 26, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a counter-affidavit it filed against the bail application Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume filed.    The EFCC said in its counter-affidavit;    “The prosecution has obtained the bench warrant and it is making frantic efforts to execute it while enlisting the support of other security agencies in the country as well as some foreign governments, particularly the Republic of Niger and the United States of America."   Recall that Justice Okon Abang had revoked the bail he granted Maina who is being tried for money laundering on November 18. 50-year-old Nigerian man shot dead in the US

A 50-year-old Nigerian man identified as Kamilu Boyede was killed in a deadly shooting incident which occurred on Wednesday morning.   Wichita Police Department in its announcement on Wednesday evening, said the incident occurred at a home in South Ida. Neighbors called the police around 11 a.m on Wednesday November 25, after seeing a door left open at a home in the 600 block of South Ida.    Captain Wendell Nicholson of the Wichita Police Department said;    “We talked to some neighbors in the area and they indicated that this morning at about 12:30 they saw an unknown male walking in the area. "They were concerned because earlier this morning they heard some shots fired, they didn't call the police, but this morning when they walked ppast the residence in the 600 block of South Ida, they saw the door was ajar so they contacted 911."     Through an investigation, police think the incident occurred sometime after midnight and before 3 a.m. They believe Boyede was a target

Ondo monarch, Olufon Of Ifon shot dead

Isreal Adeusi, the Olufon of Ifon in Ose local government area of Ondo state, has been shot dead.   The first class traditional ruler was returning to Ifon from Akure after a meeting, Thursday, Nov 26, when he ran into a barricade set up by the kidnappers along Elegbeka area.   It was gathered that his driver attempted to manoeuvre his way to avoid the kidnappers but they shot at his vehicle.   Oba Adewusi was said to have been hit by bullets and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he was confirmed dead.   According to Tribune Online, the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, rushed to the hospital after he was informed of the incident.

Three Nigerians arrested as INTERPOL busts prolific cybercrime syndicate

Three Nigerian nationals have been arrested in Lagos following a joint INTERPOL, Group-IB and Nigeria Police Force cybercrime investigation.   The suspects are believed to be members of a wider organized crime group responsible for distributing malware, carrying out phishing campaigns and extensive Business Email Compromise (BEC) scams. According to a statement issued by INTERPOL on Wednesday, November 25, the suspects are alleged to have developed phishing links, domains, and mass mailing campaigns in which they impersonated representatives of organizations.   "They then used these campaigns to disseminate 26 malware programmes, spyware and remote access tools, including AgentTesla, Loki, Azorult, Spartan and the nanocore and Remcos Remote Access Trojans. These programmes were used to infiltrate and monitor the systems of victim organizations and individuals, before launching scams and syphoning funds. Josephine Okereke, the widow of the newspaper vendor, Ifeanyi Okereke, who was killed by a stray bullet fired by one of the security aides of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has distanced herself from his family's demand N500 million compensation from Gbajabiamila.   Recall that the family via a letter written by renowned lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), asked Gbajabiamila to pay them a compensation of N500 million within seven days or face legal action. Ozekhome was given the mandate to write the letter by the father of the deceased, Okorie Okereke; and the younger brother to the deceased, Destiny Okereke.  Josephine, however, granted an interview with newsmen today November 26 where she stated that she was not informed about the demand for compensation. She noted that Gbajabiamila has already promised to take care of the needs of the deceased's family, especially the education of their children.   Josephine said she was shocked by the family's

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old househelp Cephas Iliya, for killing his former employer.   Spokesperson of the command, ASP Ramhan Nansel, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, November 26, said the suspect, from Kaduna state killed one Martins Omeri, a Deputy chief auditor in the office of the Accountant general of federation, Abuja but residing at Navy estate Karshi, Karu LGA of Nasarawa state.     "On 24/11/2020 at about 1145hrs, Police personnel attached to Karshi Division acted on credible intelligence and arrested the suspect at Arab area, FCT Abuja. Trial of Nnamdi Kanu stalled due to late service of hearing

Absentia trial of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has been stalled due to the late service of hearing notice.   Appearing in court today November 26, Lawyer to the Federal Government, Nnaemeka Ejiofor told the federal high court that the defense counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor who was supposed to appear for the IPOB leader only received the hearing notice of the trial on November 24, thereby making it impossible for him to meet up with the trial.   Trial of Nnamdi Kanu's co-defendants was also stalled due to same. Justice Binta Nyako adjourned the two cases to January 27, 2021, for hearing, and warned that the court would not entertain flimsy excuses on the next adjourned date.

The acting Director-General (DG) of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), Alex Akpa has been arrested by the ICPC for allegedly defrauding the federal government of N400 million.    Mr Akpa who is a professor of microbiology, was arrested by operatives of the commission to answer questions on how the said amount was misappropriated under his watch. He is currently being investigated for abuse of office.   It was alleged that the Acting DG of NABDA claimed the money he diverted was an intervention fund for the biotechnology agency and he allegedly shared the money with top management staff of the agency.   The commission said the offence committed by Akpan whose appointment came in June, is contrary to and punishable under sections 19 and 26 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

"FIFA should retire No.10 for all teams in tribute to Maradona" - Former Chelsea coach, Andre Villas-Boas

Former Chelsea coach and current  Marseille boss, Andre Villas-Boas has urged FIFA to retire the No.10 jersey famously won by the late Diego Maradona as he believes no player should ever wear the famous number again.   According to Andre Villas-Boas, the No.10 jersey should be retired from all teams in tribute to Diego Maradona after the Argentine icon’s death on Wednesday November 25 after suffering a heart attack.     Maradona will be remembered as one of the best to ever have played the game and the No.10 jersey became synonymous with the him.   Speaking about the late football legend after his side’s 2-0 defeat to Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday night, Villas-Boas said; “It is very bad news, as well as the loss of a board member [at Porto] who was really important to me, who was the first person to open the door for me to the coaching world,”  “And Maradona yes it is tough news, I would like FIFA to retire the No.10 shirt in all competitions, for all teams.   Andre Villa

Yakubu Gowon denies UK parliamentarian's allegation that he fled Nigeria with ''Half of Central bank''

Former Nigerian Military leader, Yakubu Gowon, has denied claims of stealing ''half of the Central Bank of Nigeria''.   Recall that on Monday, November 23, the UK parliament debated a petition seeking to impose sanctions on Nigerian Government officials involved in the shooting incident that occurred during the Endsars protest in Lekki on October 20.    During the debate, the Conservative MP Tom Tugendhat, a member of the parliament, urged his government to place sanctions on Nigerians who flee to the UK with ill-gotten wealth.
