Transborder drug trafficker arrested with N1bn worth of cocaine in Sokoto

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Sokoto State have arrested a 36-year-old suspected transborder drug trafficker, Nkem Timothy, alias Auwalu Audu, while trying to cross to Algeria through Niger Republic with 62 wraps of substance suspected to be cocaine.   Director, Media & Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Mr Femi Babafemi, who made these known in a statement in Abuja on Sunday February 28, said the substance which weighed 1.550kg, has an estimated street value of about N1 billion. Bandits severely punished kagara students who are children of security operatives

Some students of Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State who regained freedom after being abducted by unknown gunmen, have shared their experience in captivity. Recall that the gunmen had invaded the school on February 17, whisking staff and students into the forest after operating unchallenged for over two hours. President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed why security forces haven’t deployed force against bandits in the country. EFCC arraign insurance broker for diverting N26billion PHCN pension

Abiodun Waheed Hassan, an insurance broker, alongside his firm, Bestworth Insurance Brokers Limited was arraigned on Thursday, February 25, on a five-count charge of misappropriating over N26billion pension fund. Hassan was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), before Justice S.C Oriji of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Apo, Abuja. Abiodun allegedly diverted into private accounts the money meant for the payment of outstanding insurance premiums and claims of deceased and incapacitated staff of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). The insurance broker in count one of the charge diverted N26 billion paid into the insurance firm account into another bank account on January 25, 2015. Count five of the charge alleged that Abiodun misappropriated six billion naira. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The 27 schoolboys and their teachers who were abducted from the Government Science College in Kagara, Niger state have been released. The students, three of their teachers, and 12 of their family members were abducted on Wednesday, February 17. A government official said they are on their way to Minna, the state capital where they would be received by the state governor Abubakar Bello. The abductees were released from a location close to where the fifty-three abductees were released a week ago.

Bauchi state government releases N32m to vaccinate 800,000 cows

The Bauchi State Government has released the sum of N32m for the vaccination of over 800,000 herds of cattle in the state.   The state governor, Bala Mohammed, disclosed this at the inauguration of 2020/2021 annual livestock vaccination campaign at the Galambi Cattle Ranch, Bauchi on Wednesday, February 24.   “We have released over N32m for this exercise which will cover vaccines, equipment and allowances for our staff to do this exercise. The Ministry for Local Government has been directed to pay the allowances of all the participating staff in the 20 local government areas, as well as to purchase more materials to vaccinate more than 800,000 herds of cattle.”he said

NDLEA intercepts container load of tramadol so apapa port

A container load of tramadol has been intercepted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Apapa seaport. Director, Media and Advocacy NDLEA headquarters, Abuja, Femi Babafemi in a statement released on Wednesday February 24, said about two million capsules of Tramadol (precisely 1,994,400 capsules) tucked in 554 cartons were intercepted in the container which was falsely declared to contain ceramic tiles. He quoted Apapa seaport Area Commander of the NDLEA, Mr. Samuel Gadzama as saying that one of the containers bearing the illicit drug had been intercepted and seized in Kenya. Gadzama said “Though the second container found its way to Nigeria but the eagle eyes of our narcotic agents discovered it during a joint inspection of the ship. Man kills another for accusing him of sleeping with a married woman

Men of the Imo state police command have arrested a man identified as Emeka Ezuruike, a native of Ubommiri in Rivers State, for allegedly killing a 25-year-old man Victor Ikegwuonu who accused him of sleeping with a married woman. According to a statement released by Orlando Ikeokwu, the spokesperson of the command, preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased, Victor Ikegwuonwu, was said to have informed a 52-year-old man, Pa Chijioke Anyiam, that his wife Patience Anyiam, 30 yrs old, was involved in a hot romance with the suspect. Troops recover marte after boko haram terrorists took over the town in borno and hoisted their flag

New Marte in Borno State which was taken over by Boko Haram terrorists, has been recovered by troops as confirmed by the Nigerian Army on Tuesday February 23.  This came after the Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Ibrahim Attahiru gave troops a 48-hour ultimatum to recover the town. Gender reveal party device explodes in new York, kills father to be

A father-to-be was killed after a device he was building for his baby's gender reveal party accidentally exploded.   28-year-old Christopher Pekny died in the blast on Sunday, February 21, which occurred in the town of Liberty, around 100 miles northwest of New York City.   His brother, Michael Pekny, 27, was also injured in the tragic incident, officials said. He was treated for his injuries at an area hospital.   "It wasn't meant to harm anyone," Mr. Nevel said. Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state has dismissed reports of an assassination attempt on the former governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha. Okorocha on Sunday, February 21, had a clash with some of the state government officials after a property owned by his wife, Nkechi was sealed. Okorocha led some of his supporters to the property where he forcefully reopened it, This was however opposed by some of the state government officials. This resulted in a crisis that left some persons injured and some properties destroyed. Okorocha was also arrested by the state police command on the order of the state government. Malawian police issue new warrant of arrest for prophet bushiri and his wife

The Malawian police has issued a new arrest warrant for controversial millionaire Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Prophetess Mary Bushiri of the Enlightened Christian Gathering.  Recall that after Malawian authorities stopped members of the Prophet's family from leaving the country for Kenya, the police stormed his home but could not find him and his wife, Mary.  National Police spokesperson James Kadadzera confirmed the new warrant of arrest that was issued to fugitive Prophet Bushiri and his wife to Malawitalk. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services spokesperson Martin Gongolo, also said that the police stopped Bushiri’s family from traveling because they were suspecting that the preacher and his wife were fleeing the country and wanted to send their children away first.  Bushiri and his wife fled South Africa last year while on bail. Man arrested for stabbing his neighbour to death.

  The police operatives attached to Makinde Division in Lagos State on Monday, February 22, arrested 53-year-old Sunday Amaefula, of No 8 Akpaku lane, Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos State for allegedly stabbing his neighbor, Chibuike Nwanne, 43, to death.  A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, Ademuyiwa Adejobi, states that investigation by the police reveals that the deceased had an altercation with the suspect's brother, one Ifeanyi Emmanuel, before the suspect stabbed the deceased to death with bottle in their House. Adejobi added that the deceased, who got married last year, is survived by his pregnant wife. 

Woman swindles her abroad-based fiancé of N10 million then abandons him for another man

A woman has been arraigned before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court, Lagos State, for fraud after she allegedly swindled her fiancé of N10million. The woman, identified as Mary Egodo, received money from her fiancé, Ogunshakin Emmanuel, who is based abroad, for the purpose of buying a property in Lagos in preparation for their life together as a couple.  However, the man returned to Nigeria to discover that she had swindled him and run off with another lover. The man also couldn't reach Mary as she had blocked him from contacting her on every platform.  The distraught fiancé reported to the police, who trailed and eventually arrested Mary in her hideout.  When asked to refund the money, she said she had spent it all. After interrogation and having been found culpable, she was charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court for fraud and conversion of the money. She pleaded not guilty. Gunmen kills two police officers, set police station on fire in abia

  Some gunmen who invaded a police station in Aba, Abia State, on the morning of Tuesday February 23, reportedly killed two police officers.  The gunmen reportedly broke into a store where arms were kept and carted them away after killing an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and a Police Corporal.  Daily Trust reported that the Police have restricted movements around the burnt station, compounding the traffic woes of residents of the estate.

Man allegedly stabs his younger brother to death in Edo

A man identified as Kadir(pictured right) is on the run after he allegedly stabbed his younger brother, Suleiman (pictured left) to death in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.     It was gathered that trouble started on Friday morning, February 19, when Suleiman scolded Kadir’s wife for being rude to their mother.   Kadir, who was not home when the altercation happened, confronted his younger brother for daring to rebuke his wife when he returned. Their mother was said to have intervened and settled the quarrel between the two siblings.     However, not satisfied, Kadir was said to have revisited the issue later in the day and once again, their mother stepped in and calmed the situation.   Suleiman was said to have put the matter behind him and went about his normal business. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested three suspects in connection with the brutal murder of 22-year-old student of Egerton University in Njoro, Kenya.   Eunice Muthoni Njeri's lifeless body was found dumped in Subuku river in Njoro, Nakuru County on December 7, 2020.     Autopsy conducted by Dr. Wangari Wambugu, at the Egerton University Funeral home on December 10, 2020 revealed that the 4th year student (pictured) was strangled to death before being dumped in the river.     A statement issued by DCI on Saturday, February 20, said Njeri’s murder was planned and executed by her two close friends and fellow students at Egerton University; Diana Muthiomi and Tamar Wambora Njeru.   DCI said it all began when Diana suspected that Njeri was having an affair with her husband, Eric Maingi Mutuma.   "A day before Njeri was killed, Diana and Tamar had left for a funeral in Nakuru leaving behind the deceased with Diana’s husband. Two brothers slump and die within seconds of each other while fighting over their late father's land in benue

The Federal Government has said most of the bandits and criminal herdsmen terrorising the country are not Nigerians. Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed spoke on Channels Television programme, ‘Sunrise Daily’. He disclosed that the government is working towards the amendment of ECOWAS Protocols on the free movement of human and cattle within countries. Mohammed explained that scrutiny at land borders was relaxed due to regional agreement. “The ECOWAS Protocols allows trans-human movement between all the ECOWAS countries. That is why we are thinking of seriously reviewing the ECOWAS Protocols in that respect. “What we find out today is that a lot of criminalities have been introduced through the herdsmen and trans-human,’’ he said.

Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, says the abducted staff and students of Government Science College Kagara in Niger state may regain their freedom today, February 21. Governor okowa aide, Okiemute Sowho, shot dead by suspected assassins

The Special Assistant to Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on Youth development, Comrade Okiemute Sowho has been killed by suspected assassins in Sapele. 40-year-old Sowho was shot dead around 6 p.m. on Saturday evening February 20, near a popular hotel along Akintola road close to the Adeniyi end of the town. According to reports, the deceased had gone to check a building in the vicinity when the assailants surfaced from nowhere and opened fire on him, before speeding away. He was rushed to a private hospital in the area where the doctors confirmed him dead on arrival before his remains were deposited in the mortuary. The late Sowho assumed office last year. The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry, on Friday, gave a cheque of N10m each to two petitioners who fell victim of stray bullets fired by men of the disbanded police Special Anti-Robbery Squad. One of the compensated victims was a 35-year-old hairdresser, Mrs Hannah Olugbodi, who told the retired Justice Doris Okuwobi-led panel that she ended up on a crutch after her left leg was shattered by a stray bullet fired by SARS cops who were attempting to arrest a young man with tattoos in June 2018 in the Ijeshatedo area of Lagos. Olugbodi, who presented her case before the panel on November 28, 2020, told the panel that she had been rendered incapacitated since the incident happened and pleaded with the panel to help her get justice. “For two years, I have been at home, doing nothing. 28-yr-old lady kills her 21-yr-old boyfriend over missing N1,500

A 28-year-old lady, Ebiere Ezekiel, has reportedly stabbed her boyfriend, Godgift Aboh, 21 to death, over an argument about missing N1,500. It was learnt that the incident occurred at Obele in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The suspect, Ezekiel, a hairdresser, is said to have been dating the deceased for over 12 months. It was learnt that trouble started when the deceased allegedly slapped her for daring to ask her for her missing N1, 500 resulting in the suspect stabbing him to death with a weapon. She allegedly stabbed her boyfriend in the stomach during the argument and he died thereafter. The suspect, who was paraded on Thursday, by the Bayelsa State Police Command alongside other suspected criminals in connection with kidnapping, murder, burglary, stealing and vandalism, regretted her action.

FBI links Hushpuppi to North Korean bank robbers and money launderers

The Federal Bureau of Investigation FBI has linked Instagram celebrity, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, a.k.a Hushpuppi, to North Korean hackers said to be the biggest bank robbers in the world.   The Justice Department in a detailed statement released on Friday, February 19, alleged that Hushpuppi took part in a “North Korean-perpetrated cyber-enabled heist from a Maltese bank in February 2019.” According to the statement, his role was as a collaborator with a North Korean money launderer, Ghaleb Alaumary, 37, based in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.   “Alaumary agreed to plead guilty to the charge, which was filed in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on Nov. 17, 2020. “Alaumary was a prolific money launderer for hackers engaged in ATM cash-out schemes, cyber-enabled bank heists, business email compromise (BEC) schemes, and other online fraud schemes.
