Police arrest 15 year old student in Niger state for writing fake threat letter of impending kidnapping to his school

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 15-year-old student, Samaki Azozo, over alleged breach of public peace. 

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday February 19, said that Azozo allegedly wrote a threat letter to Government Science College, indicating that the school will be attacked by kidnappers. 

"On 18/02/2021 at about 1200hrs, acting on a tip off, Police Operatives attached to Gawu-Babangida Division arrested one Samaki Azozo aged 15yrs 'm' of Kuje, FCT Abuja, who is an SS2 student of Government Science College, Izom Gurara LGA," he stated. 

"The suspect was arrested in the school premises for writing a threat letter to the school authority on 16/02/2021 and pasted it on the school notice board. The letter indicated in the main, that kidnappers will attack the school at any moment, therefore, the students and staff of the school should be prepared.

"During interrogation, he confessed to have written the letter to cause panic and closure of the school to enable him return to his former school, Government Secondary School, Kuje where he attended Junior Secondary School before being transferred to Government Science College, Izom by his father.

"The Command hereby enjoins parents and guardians to closely monitor the interest and activities of their wards before taking decisions that may affect them directly or indirectly especially on their academics and career paths.

Nigerian footballer, Kelvin Odenigbo, drowns in Belarus lake

A Nigerian footballer, Kelvin Odenigbo, playing for FC Vitebsk in Belarus, has been found dead after drowning in a lake. Boko Haram throws Maiduguri into darkness again, blows up power tower.

Barely 72 hours after electric power was restored in Maiduguri, Borno State, Boko Haram insurgents on Saturday, March 27,  blew up another transmission tower in the city. Premium Times reports that the insurgents planted explosives on each leg of the tower, which they detonated at about 6 a.m. In January, the terrorists struck power installations thrice at a location about 50km from Maiduguri to keep the city in the dark. The power, was however, restored on Wednesday, March 24, after nearly two months of blackout. While reconnecting the installation, three TCN officials were severely injured by a landmine planted by the insurgents. Another official was said to have lost his life after falling off a tower. The city has now been thrown into another darkness following the Saturday morning attack.
