36 year old medical doctor dies from COVID-19 complications in jigawa

A 36-year-old medical doctor in Jigawa state, Nasir Adam, has died from COVID-19 complications. According to reports, Nasir died at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Birninkudu after battling with acute respiratory disease and was later said to have contracted the novel Coronavirus. . Until his death, he was the Medical Officer in the Department of Internal Medicine, Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kudu in the state. Born in Jos, Plateau State capital in 1984, the deceased doctor had his primary and secondary education in Jos. He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria in 2012 and did his housemanship in the Federal Medical Center. In a related development, the state government today discharged 22 COVID-19 patients after testing negative twice for the virus.

AEDC official arrested for impregnating underage girl and dumping their baby at unknown place

An official of Abuja Electricity Distribution (AEDC) identified as 30-year-old Nura Salisu has been arrested by the FCT police command for impregnating a 16-year-old girl, Nanket Manasseh and dumping their baby at an unknown place.    The suspect who started having carnal knowledge of the teenager when she was just 15, was arrested by officers of Jahi Police station on May 22 on charges of abducting his 6-month-old baby and refusing to share details of his whereabouts.   Speaking to The ICIR, Manasseh said the AEDC official has been trying to sleep with her since she was 10. Earlier today, LIB shared the trending story of a 100-level Microbiology student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Uwaila Omozuwa, who was allegedly raped and severely beaten up inside The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Edo Province 10, Ikpoba Hill, Benin, where she had gone to read on Wednesday, May 27. A family source who shared the story online, said Uwaila died on Saturday midnight at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where she was rushed to after the attack. Lagos policeman runs amok, opens fire on colleagues, killing some

A yet-to-be named policeman on Sunday morning allegedly opened fire on his colleagues at Onikan, Lagos state killing at least some of them. The officer reportedly went berserk around 5am following a disagreement with other members of his team. It was gathered that the trigger- happy cop hijacked their operational vehicle after shooting them and drove straight to Akoka in Yaba around 5am where he attempted to access a compound but couldn’t. Bishop Joseph Masin, the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN ) has regained freedom after being kidnapped on May 27. . LIB reported earlier that the gunmen who stormed his residence at Bukan Sidi area of Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital had demanded a N20m ransom for his release. . Bayelsa comfirms first coronavirus death

The Bayelsa state Government has confirmed the death of a Coronavirus patient from complications linked to the disease. . The Director of Public Health in the state’s ministry of health and member of the state COVID-19 task force committee, Dr Jones Stowe who confirmed the death of the patient said the deceased is one of the two military personnel who were among the new cases  announced in the state few days ago. . Daily Trust reported that the deceased died after suffering from Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and other related complications days after testing positive for Coronavirus. Bayelsa state has so far recorded 12 confirmed cases of Coronavirus.

12-year-old girl raped by 11 men in Jigawa

Police in Jigawa State have arrested eleven people for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl. Spokesman of the State police command, SP Abdu Jinjiri confirmed the arrested to DAILY POST in Dutse. He said the incident occurred at Limawa quarters in Dutse local government area of Jigawa State. Jinjiri explained that the arrest was made after the police in the area received a complaint that one Alh Zuwai, 57 years old of Ma’ai village in Dutse local government was seen at Limawa market trying to lure a 12 year old girl of the same address to a hidden place, to have intercourse with her. He said police arrested the suspect and on the course of interrogation, the girl mentioned eleven persons who have been raping her severally in different occasions. Police spokesman said all the eleven suspects were also arrested and have confessed to the offence. The case is still under investigation at the State CID in Dutse.

UNIBEN student raped, killed inside Church in Edo

A 100 level student of the University of Benin, UNIBEN from the department of Microbiology, faculty of Life Sciences, Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa,  has reportedly been raped and killed  inside a church in Edo  state. The 22-year-old victim was said to have been raped on Friday 29th May near Ikpoba Hill in Benin City, at her church, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). According to reports gathered, the deceased had gone to the church to read as she prepared for the possible school resumption after months of staying at home as a result of the  lockdown  order. The perpetrators were said to have attacked her at the RCCG Ohovbe road branch, raped and smashed her head with a fire extinguisher, leaving her for dead. Miss Vera was rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where she battled for her dear life at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). She, however, gave up the ghost Saturday midnight, May 30, following excess loss of blood and deep cuts sustained from the attack.

A GoFundMe campaign to help the family of George Floyd, the black man who died after a white Minneapolis police officer forcefully kneeled on his neck during his arrest, has now raised over $4.6 million in just three days. . The campaign created by Floyd’s brother, Philonise Floyd, has received more than 180,000 donations totaling to $4,652,670,  as of Sunday morning (May 31). The initial goal was to raise $1.5 million. Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer who was filmed kneeling on Floyd's neck, has been arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter in connection with Floyd’s death, which has prompted nationwide protests that have turned violent in several cites. Three other officers, Thomas Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Kueng, have all been fired in connection with Floyd's death, but none have been arrested.

FG to pay unemployed youth N20k/monthly to clear drainages, sweep markets

As part of Pres. Buhari’s agenda to reduce unemployment rate in the country, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment,Festus Keyamo (SAN), said that the Federal Government has agreed to pay N20,000 to unemployed youths to maintain public and social infrastructures in the country. The youths will be engaged in the clearing of drainages, sweeping markets, road maintenance, traffic control, and cleaning of public infrastructures like health centres and schools. . Keyamo said the programme is designed to mitigate lack of job opportunities in the rural areas through a short-term engagement of 1,000 unemployed persons per local government area for a period of three months. He added that participants will be paid an allowance of N20,000 monthly and are to be recruited largely from the pool of unskilled persons resident in rural areas.

Six Nigerian Air Force personnel who were aides to Late Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, have been sent to jail by a Special Court-Martial sitting in Abuja, following the gruesome murder  of the former Chief of Defence Staff in December 2018. Badeh was shot dead by gunmen along Abuja-Keffi Road while on his way back from his farm. The Nigerian Police Force, operatives of the Department of State Services and the military had thereafter arrested about 14 suspects in connection with the murder, who confessed that they were on a robbery and kidnapping operation. Kellie Chauvin, the wife of sacked Minneapolis police officer who knelt on George Floyd's neck till he died, said she is filing for divorce after 10 years of marriage. In a statement issued by her attorney, Kellie said she is devastated by the killing of the 46-year-old. Her attorney said she filed for divorce as a result of this week's incident. The former Minneapolis Officer, Derek Chauvin, was arrested and charged Friday in connection with Floyd’s death, which has prompted nationwide protests that have turned violent. He faces 3rd-degree murder and manslaughter charges. “She is devastated by Mr. Floyd’s death. 82 year old hypertensive patient recovers from COVID-19 in osun

An Eighty-two-year-old woman has recovered from COVID-19 in Osun state. The state Commissioner for Health, Rafiu Isamotu, who disclosed this to newsmen today May 29, said the Octogenarian was a hypertensive patient who survived the deadly disease despite medical opinion that older persons with chronic diseases have slimmer chances of survival. COVID-19 : Bafta Tv awards to be held behind closed doors with winners to give acceptance speeches virtuality

This year's Bafta Television Awards will be broadcast from behind closed doors because of the Coronavirus pandemic. BAFTA-winning comedian Richard Ayoade will host from a closed studio, and winners will give acceptance speeches virtually. Both the TV and craft awards were due to take place on May 17, but will now happen on July 31, with nominations to be announced on June 4. Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis officer who knelt on George Floyd's neck till he died, has been arrested and charged with 3rd degree murder.  The other 3 officers who stood by and watched are still under investigation, but no charges have yet been filed. Derek Chauvin, who was fired on Tuesday along with three other officers involved in the detainment of Floyd, was taken into custody Friday and faces charges of 3rd-degree murder and manslaughter, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced. 3rd degree murder is a crime committed without premeditation or intention to kill and involves killing another person through inherent dangerous actions and with no regard to human life. Freeman said he expected more charges to come, possibly against some of the other three officers. “The investigation is ongoing," Freeman said, "We felt it was appropriate to focus on the most dangerous perpetrator. In a court opinion filed May 26 but made available to the media on Thursday, Chief Justice Stuart Rabner of the New Jersey Supreme Court ordered Judge John F. Russo Jr. to be removed from his position effective immediately and permanently banning Russo from holding a judicial office in New Jersey. Russo was removed after a complaint was filed in August 2018 by the Supreme Court of New Jersey Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct, alleging four counts of misconduct both in the courtroom and by asking personal favors from court staff. Pastor sentenced to death for killing farm invader in ondo

An Ondo State High Court has handed a death sentence to a Pastor identified as Kolawole Samson, after he was found guilty of killing a middle aged man Ayo Olaniyi. The deceased was attacked after he went to hunt for frogs alongside three others at a fish pond owned by Pastor Kolawole at Gberinlegi Village near Okeigbo area of Ile-Oluji/Okegbo Local Government Area of the state in March 2016. . Kolawole inflicted injuries on Olaniyi's head with a cutlass. Olaniyi died later at a hospital he was admitted in.  The prosecution attorneys argued that Kolawole’s action was contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Laws of Ondo State (2006). Though the Pastor pleaded not guilty, Justice Ademola Bola who ruled on the case stated that all evidence presented before the court showed that he was guilty of killing Olaniyi. He subsequently sentenced Samson Kolawole to death by hanging.

Peter Ogbonna attacked his twin brother Paul Ogbonna with a machete in Umuonunkwo kindred, Ndimoko Arondizuogu in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo state. 325 Chinese Nationals have been evacuated from Nigeria due to the lingering Coronavirus pandemic. . The Chinese nationals departed Nigeria via an Air Peace flight on Thursday night, May 28. The flight is headed for Shanghai. France, Canada, the UK, and the US are among the countries that have also evacuated their nationals from Nigeria since the pandemic began. The Nigerian government has also evacuated some Nigerians from other countries back home.

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has denied Amnesty International's allegation of arresting, detaining and torturing children in its custody. In its 91-page report titled “‘We dried our tears’: Addressing the toll on children of Northeast Nigeria’s conflict”, Amnesty International said it conducted interviews between November 2019 and April 2020 with more than 230 people affected by the conflict, including 119 who were children when they suffered serious crimes by Boko Haram, the Nigerian military, or both. Family of Suliu Ambali, 45-year-old commercial bus driver, whose life was cut down in his prime by another neighbor, is demanding justice. The Kwara-born Ambali was punched with a ring allegedly laced with charm by a young man identified as Daduro Afefe at about 4:30p.m. on Sunday, May 24, at Okemorosun, off Magbon Town, Badagry in Lagos State. Suliu, who went to work on the said day, had returned to join friends celebrating the Eid-el-Fitri. A call for help came shortly after his arrival, as a woman cried to the men that her aged husband was about being beaten by the said Afefe, a terror in the community. An alleged case of malpractice charged against People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Senator  Ademola Adeleke  by the federal government has been withdrawn. Recall that during the heat of the Osun state governorship election campaign in 2018, Adeleke and one of his relatives, Sikiru Adeleke, were accused of engaging in examination malpractice. Ademola and Sikiru were accused of impersonation, registering as students of Ojo-Aro Community Grammar School, Ojo-Aro, Osun State to enable them to sit for the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination of June/July 2017.
