Church member gifts pastor a N55m Land Cruiser

A member of Bishop David Oyedepo’s Living Faith Church has gifted his pastor the latest Land Cruiser Prado worth N55 million. Pastor Chris Abraham was gifted the car as a farewell gift after he was recently transferred from Abuja to another state in Nigeria. According to Church Gist, the Land Cruiser was given to him by a member popularly known as Major Mega. 

US is ready to help Nigeria identify Boko Haram sponsors — Envoy

The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Leonard, says her country is ready to partner Nigeria to identify the sponsors of Boko Haram and extremism in the country. She disclosed this on Monday, August 30, during a meeting with journalists in Abuja. The envoy was asked if the US was ready to help Nigeria identify sponsors of terrorism in Nigeria. She, however, said talks were ongoing on the matter. According to her, “That is something we are very eager to partner Nigeria on. I have had at least three conversations in the last two months on this subject. I won’t like to go into details. I hear people making the analogy with Afghanistan a lot, it does not match up. When you listen to what President Biden said on how troops went to Afghanistan in the first place, it was because they were in a horrible tragedy, over 3,000 Americans were killed. Kingpin excretes 87 wraps of coc*ine under close observation in Abuja

A narcotrafficker, Ibeh Kenneth Ejike, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja for ingesting 87 wraps of coc*ine. The 41-year-old suspect who was arrested on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, upon his arrival on board an Ethiopian Airline flight 911 from Kigali via Addis Ababa was taken in for secondary check during which he tested positive to ingestion of illicit substance.  According to NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, while under observation, he excreted 87 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.884 kilograms. Ibeh who imports cloths for sale hails from Owerrizikeala village in Orumba LGA of Anambra State. 

Housemaid kidnaps boss’ children in Lagos, moves them to Edo State

The Edo State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old nanny, Precious Mmaduike, who allegedly kidnapped her boss’ children in Lagos and took them to Benin City, Edo State. The suspect was arrested alongside two others on Thursday, August 26, 2021, three days after she abducted the kids from their residence in Surulere area of Lagos. The other suspects are identified as Jane Osas, 35, and 45-year-old John Obasu.  The command’s spokesperson, Kontongs Bello, in a statement said, “The abduction was planned and executed by their housemaid. Precious Mmaduike, used her familiarity with the children as househelp and abducted them from Lagos to Benin City, Edo state. The father of the children said they were given N500 by his wife to buy biscuits outside the compound in the company of the nanny, but failed to return. He said the phone of the nanny was later switched off and efforts to find the children proved abortive. The father reported the situation to the Aguda police station

Man br*talizes his wife, breaks her lower jaw and damages her left eye in Adamawa.

A father of five, Zakaria Waye, who allegedly broke his wife's lower jaw and d*maged her left eye during a quarrel has been arraigned in Chief Magistrate Court 4 in Yola, Adamawa State. It was gathered that the accused, who hails from Girei town in Girei LGA of the state, a*saulted his wife, Ruth Zakaria, on Wednesday, August 25.   The victim, Ruth, could not talk when she was brought to court on Thursday, August 26, as she had undergone surgery to stitch and wire her broken jaw.   Zakaria, who is accused of constantly b*ating his wife, sometimes in the presence of their children, pleaded not guilty to the charges of causing a grievious hurt among other offences.  He told the court that his wife should be blamed for the trouble in the family, alleging that she held his private part hence he had to b*at her.   The court presided by Magistrate Abdulrazak Adamu, ordered that the accused be remanded at Yola Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter to November 22, 2021,

Child bride who k*lled her husband because of forced marriage, freed

The Committee on Prison Reforms and Decongestion has freed Rahma Hussein, a young woman accused of k*lling her husband to protest her forced marriage. In 2014, Hussein, then 16, was arrested and charged to a High Court in Kano State for st*bbing her husband to d*ath, barely 24 hours after their wedding. In 2018, Justice R. A. Sadik ordered her “detained at the pleasure of the governor of the state” because she was forcefully married and committed the offence at the age of 16. . The spokesperson, Kano correctional centre, Musbahu Kofar-Nasarawa, in a statement on Saturday, August 28, said Ms Hussein’s release on Friday was “based on the recommendation from the officials of the correctional centre who attested to her sound character.” The committee also advised Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who holds the power of prerogative of mercy on her judgement, to consider the circumstances that led her to commit the offence and grant her pardon. 

Police rescue k*dnapped KWASU 300L student, arrest 6 suspects in Kwara

. The police in Kwara State have arrested six suspects who allegedly abducted a 300-level female student of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Isiaq Khadeejah.  Khadijat was abducted last Sunday at one of the Malete off-campuses of the institution, allegedly, by the suspects, who demanded N50million ransom for her release.  The commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Tuesday Assayomo, in a statement on Saturday, August 28, said the suspects were arrested as police rescue the victim unhurt. It was gathered that the K*dnappers were tracked through a POS they wanted to use to collect the ransom in Shao, the next town to Malete in the Moro LGA of the state. ”Six suspects involved in the act have been arrested, different categories of weapons used in the k*dnap were also recovered,” he said.

An 18-year-old boy, Segun Bakare, who was hypnotized by a suspected rit*alist while on his way to work in Mushin, Lagos, and taken to Ore, in Ondo State, has narrated how he narrowly escaped. 32 more Kaduna Baptist school students regain their freedom, 31 still in captivity

Bandits have released 32 of the remaining 63 abducted students of Bethel Baptist High School in Damishi, Kaduna state.   The Chairman of the Kaduna state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Joseph Hayab, who confirmed the students’ release to newsmen, said they were released on Friday, August 27, and have since been reunited with their parents.   On July 5, 2021, bandits had invaded the school located some few kilometers from Kaduna metropolis and abducted 121 students. 28 of the students were released on July 25 after their parents allegedly paid N100 million as ransom. Last week, the bandits released 15 of the students who were in their captivity.

Manchester United’s shares, which is publicly traded in the United States, has surge 8% with market cap currently over $200million, just few hours after they announced they have reached agreement to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo. Manchester United have confirmed they have reached an agreement to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus. Nigerian Yahoo boy arrested after reporting his ‘apprentice’ to the police for cheating him of fr*ud proceeds in India

A Nigerian man who walked into a police station with a “cheating” complaint in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, India, has been arrested after it was discovered that he had been staying in India without a valid visa since 2011.  The suspect Robert Otujeme, was arrested on Wednesday night, August 25, and is now being interrogated by intelligence agencies, The Times of India reports.  According to the police, Otujeme had allegedly transferred “duped money” into the bank accounts of four Bareilly residents and was in the city to meet them as they had “cheated” him.  Upon questioning the Nigerian, the cops realised that he was involved in an alleged cyber fr*ud worth Rs 80 lakh. Man rapes, impregnates his teenage daughter in Delta

A middle-aged man identified as David Akpokpokpo has been arrested by a vigilante group for allegedly raping and impregnating his teenage daughter in Amukpe area of Sapele, Delta State. It was gathered that the suspect had carnal knowledge of his daughter, Mercy Akpokpokpo, which resulted in pregnancy and birth of a three month old baby.  According to reports, the suspect threatened to kill his daughter if she opened up to anyone. However, when she could no longer bear it, she reported to the vigilante group in Amukpe on Friday, August 27.  During interrogation, the man claimed to have slept with his daughter only once under the influence of alcohol but the victim countered him, saying that her father raped her four times.  The suspect also admitted being the father of the child. 

UK to stop accepting and evacuating refugees from Afghanistan today

The UK  says it will end its evacuation mission in Afghanistan today, August 27 citing security concerns. The UK defence ministry says it has closed its refugee processing centre in Kabul following the terro bomb attacks that killed over 90 people in Kabul on Thursday, August 26. The Abbey Gate of Kabul airport, the scene of a deadly explosion yesterday, was shut in the early hours of the morning. The Baron’s hotel, which has been used as the processing centre to deal with thousands of claims from those trying to flee the new Taliban regime, has also closed.   UK defense minister, Ben Wallace said efforts to get tens of thousands of people out of the country is entering its final stages and conceded ‘the sad fact is not every single one will get out’.   Mr Wallace told Sky News on Friday , August 27: ‘We will process the people that we’ve brought with us, the 1,000 people approximately in the airfield now and we will seek a way to continue to find a few people in the crowds

Man arrested for allegedly attempting to rape his male friend

A young man identified as Isaac Opoku has been arrested at Ejisu Kranpa, for allegedly trying to sleep with his male friend.  Opoku who was being interrogated in a viral video shared online, is said to be a native of Bonwire in Ghana and was visiting a friend he met just 3 months ago at his home in Ejisu Kranpa. It was alleged that after his friend left the room to get water for him to drink, he came back home to meet Opoku naked. He then allegedly tried to force himself on the friend but got overpowered. Opoku was subsequently reported to authorities, leading to his arrest. 

Lovers banned from meeting in public places at night in Kano

Rano Local Government Area of Kano State has banned lovers from meeting in public places at night. The bye-law enacted to this effect is as a result of the reported cases of immoral activities between girls and boys, including divorcees. According to the local government information officer, Habibu Faragai, the council chairman, Dahiru Muhammad, announced the law at a security committee meeting attended by residents and traditional leaders. Mr Muhammad said the committee had raised alarm over the high rate of immorality in the LGA, adding that the concern guided the council to come up with the new law. He said the law was meant to sanitise the council area of immoral activities occurring during night discussions between the opposite s*x. The council boss directed the state’s Hisbah board (moral police) and other security agents at the local level to ensure compliance and arrest defaulters. 

Veteran actor and Tinsel star, Victor Olaotan is dead

  Olaotan who had been bedridden for five years after being involved in a ghastly accident which occurred at Apple Junction, in Festac, Lagos while he was driving to movie set, died at the age of 69.    His wife, Julia Olaotan confirmed his death, saying she is grateful that he can finally rest after suffering for years.   Julia told Premium Times;   “He has tried. It is not easy to be trapped in your own body for five years. He can finally rest now."   Before his death, Olaotan had been battling for his life in a Turkish hospital for almost three years. 

Channels TV denies reports its staff were arrested by DSS

Channels TV has denied media reports claiming some of its reporters were arrested by security agents on Thursday, August 26. According to the media house, the entire anchors of its flagship programme, Sunrise Daily,  were invited for a meeting by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) in Abuja and they have since returned from that meeting. News made rounds on social media yesterday afternoon that the presenters were arrested by the DSS for an interview they granted to Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom.

DSS operatives allegedly disperse doctors at Saudi Arabia recruitment exercise in Abuja as FG says the exercise is embarrassing

Operatives of the Department of State Services, on Thursday, August 26, dispersed medical doctors, who stormed the Sheraton Hotels, Abuja, to take part in the ongoing recruitment exercise organized by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health here in Nigeria. Man dies after 'using glue to seal penis' to prevent fiancee from getting pregnant

A man who used super strong glue to ‘seal’ his penis has died. Salman Mirza, 25,  applied glue to his genitals to stop his fiancée from getting pregnant after they checked into a hotel in Juhapura neighbourhood of Ahmedabad, India, on June 22. Mr Mirza was, however, found unconscious outside the hotel the following day. 136 abducted students released after 3 months in bandits den

The 136 abducted pupils of Salihu Tanko Islamiyya School, Tegina in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, have been released. They were released on Thursday night, August 26, in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna State after three months in captivity. Around 136 school children were taken from the school in Tegina town in May but on Monday the school's owner said that six had d*ed of illness. Premium Times reports that the pupils were released after the payment of over N60 million and five new motorcycles as ransom to their abductors. 

Man impersonates EFCC to defraud yahoo boys of N38m to prevent arrest

Operatives of the Economic  and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Command, have arrested one Ladeji Kelvin Babatunde for allegedly obtaining over N38million from suspected internet fra*dsters in order to prevent their arrest by the Commission. The defendant allegedly impersonated officers of the Commission and obtained the sum of money by false pretence from the suspected cybercriminals. Upon his arrest, a four-bedroom uncompleted apartment located at Ikola Road, Alagbado, Lagos, which was developed with the proceeds of the perpetrated fr*ud, was recovered from him. 

Update: Third explosion occurs in Kabul with at least 60 killed including 12 US marines

In an unfolding of the terrible humanitarian scenes in Kabul, Afghanistan, at least 60 people including 12 US marines have been reportedly killed after a third bomb explosion was heard at the Kabul airport on Thursday, August 26. Taliban officials earlier said that at least 13 people including children have been reported dead at Hamid Karzai International Airport, with the death toll rising since then. An Afghan interpreter who was there hoping to be evacuated described how he saw a girl believed to be around five killed by the bomb: He told the BBC: ‘I saw a baby there and I went to her and I picked her up and started taking her to the hospital. Kabul Airport Attack: ISIS claim responsibility for terror attack that has killed 60 so far in Afghanistan

Terror group, ISIS, has claimed responsibility for the deadly bombings at Kabul airport on Thursday, August 26 in Afghanistan. At least 60 people, including 12 American troops, are thought to have died in two blasts that occured while reports say a third blast also occured. A spokesman for the group on Thursday night, released a statement saying that they had carried out the attack on the Abbey Gate. He did not mention the second attack next to the Baron Hotel. The spokesman shared a photo of a fighter posing with a gun while raising one finger in a prayer symbol, saying this was the man who detonated a bomb in a suicide attack. US president, Joe Biden is yet to publicly respond to the attacks.

Military personnel in Cameroon have been accused of k*lling two Nigerian teenagers in Ekombe, about 7 miles away from Kumba in the South West Region of the country. The two victims, Precious Ugochi Okudah and Chinasa Okudah, both under the age of 15, were reportedly k*lled as the military rained b*llets at the shop where they sought coverage, on Saturday morning, August 21, Mimi Mefo Info is reporting.  According to a relative of the victims, soldiers heading to Kumba came across a bridge where explosive devices had been planted targeting them in Ekombe.  “Although none of them got hurt by the detonation of the explosive, they angrily decided to enter the town sh*oting randomly for about four hours. Gov. Obaseki to ban unvaccinated people from going to churches, mosques and banks

Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, says those who cannot show proof of taking at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine may not be allowed into large gatherings in churches, mosques, banks, wedding or burial receptions among others. COVID-19: 1,094 returning travellers have absconded from Isolation — Gov. Sanwo-Olu cries out .

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has raised an alarm that 1,094 returning travellers have run away from isolation centres in the state. . The governor made this known on Monday, August 23, while giving an update on the COVID-19 pandemic in the state at the State House, Marina.  He revealed that a total of 1,073 inbound passengers out of 88,847 who arrived in Lagos via the Murtala Mohammed International Airport between May 8 and August 21 – have tested positive. According to him, as of Saturday, the state has identified 5,998 of the returning travellers and successfully isolated 4,500 people who arrived from the red-listed countries, while 1,094 have absconded. He decried that Nigerians who disregard the protocols and abscond from isolation were directly putting the rest of the country at risk of unending waves of the pandemic.

Bandits attack Nigerian Defence Academy, kill two officers and abduct one other

Woman and her four children rescued from suspected kidnappers in Imo

A woman and her four children have been rescued from their abductors in Imo state. The four victims identified as Chinenye Odika 'F' age 27 years,  Chika Mark 'F' age 9 years, Chisom Mark 'F' age 14 years and Princess Odika ' F' age 6 months, all of Human Race Estate Naze , Owerri North LGA of Imo State, were kidnapped by unknown gunmen in their Estate on August 19.  The matter was immediately reported to the police by the husband and father of the victims, Obinna Odika.  The Imo State command's Control Room immediately disseminated the report to all the police formations and tactical units for prompt interception and arrest of the kidnappers.  The spokesperson of the state police command, CSP Michale Abattam, who confirmed the incident, said the efforts of the police paid off as an investigation into the incident was ongoing. The Kano State Hisbah Board has docked a Kannywood actress and social media blogger, Sadiya Haruna, for allegedly uploading sexual contents on her social media accounts. According to Daily Trust, Sadiya, a resident of Kabuga Quarters was initially arrested on Friday by the Head of Surveillance Department of Kano State Hisbah Board, Malam Aliyu Usman. The actress was then detained in the custody of the Islamic police until early Monday, August 23, when she was brought before the Sharia court sitting in Sharada area of the state. According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed against her, she was alleged to have consistently posted indecent videos in which she was dancing seductively and making sexual comments on her social media handles and on her YouTube channel. COVID-19: Nigerian pastor and congregation fined N14million for holding illegal service in Australia

A Nigerian pastor, Marvin Osaghae, and his congregation, have been fined $35,000 (about N14million) for holding illegal church service in New South Wales, Australia. Osaghae, who is a pastor at Christ Embassy Sydney, and 30 of his members were fined on Sunday, August 22, hours after he led a prayer for an end to lockdowns. The Sydney Morning Herald reports that about 60 people, including children, who travelled from COVID-19 hotspot suburbs, attended the illegal church gathering. 30 adults were each fined $1000 for failing to comply with a COVID-19 direction, while the organisation was fined $5000. 

Residents face 12 months jail term for blowing nose without handkerchief, spitting on the streets in Nairobi

Residents of Nairobi, Kenya, risk up to 12 months jail term if they are caught blowing their noses without handkerchief or tissue in public, or spitting on the streets, according to a newly passed bill. The new rules and regulations introduced by the Nairobi County government and signed by Nairobi Deputy Governor, Ann Kananu, are aimed at keeping the city clean and hygienic. According to TheInformer, contained in the Nairobi City County Public Nuisance Bill, 2021, the new regulations also prohibits one from urinating in undesignated spaces, sleeping in kitchens or food stores, among others. Persons found flouting the new law will be liable to a fine of anything between Sh10,000 and Sh500,000, and imprisonment of six to 12 months depending on the offence committed.

Stephen Afam Ikeanyionwu, a dr*g dealer wanted for attempting to export 69.65kilograms of cocaine, heroin and cannabis to the United Kingdom (UK), has been arrested. .
