It’s embarrassing for an unmarried policewoman to get pregnant — Police PRO backs pregnant policewoman’s sack

The Ekiti State police command has defended its decision to dismiss an unmarried policewoman, Olajide Omolola for getting pregnant out of wedlock less than a year after she joined the force.

Omolola, a corporal serving at the Iye Divisional Police Headquarters in Ilejemeje LGA of the state was dismissed from the force last week for breaching the section 127 of the Police Act and Regulation which forbids a woman police from getting pregnant before marriage in the Force.

Speaking with Vanguard on Thursday, January 28, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Sunday Abutu, noted that every organisations have rules guiding their conduct, saying Omolola who was enlisted in April 2020 embarrassed the Force by flouting the police Act which she agreed to adhere to when taking the job.

“It is very much there in the police Act and anyone that is coming in especially a woman when she could get pregnant after some years but in her own case she joined less than a year ago and she got pregnant without a husband. It is against the Police Act.

People bringing emotions and personal opinion to it should not be the case. In your own establishment, you have your own rules and regulations and no matter how small or big the rule is, nobody should go against it or take it for granted.

Everyone in the Force knows that you must introduce someone as your husband, that is it. So getting pregnant without doing this is an embarrassment to the Force. There is nothing too harsh in the punishment,” he said.

Barely 72 hours after electric power was restored in Maiduguri, Borno State, Boko Haram insurgents on Saturday, March 27,  blew up another transmission tower in the city. Premium Times reports that the insurgents planted explosives on each leg of the tower, which they detonated at about 6 a.m. In January, the terrorists struck power installations thrice at a location about 50km from Maiduguri to keep the city in the dark. A California parole board on Friday, August 27, voted to release from prison Sirhan Sirhan, the man convicted of sh*oting d*ad Robert F. Kennedy in a 1968 a*sas*ination that rocked the United States. This comes after RFK’s two sons went against several of their siblings’ wishes and said they supported releasing him and prosecutors declined to argue he should be kept behind bars, AP News reports.  Douglas Kennedy was a toddler when his father was g*nned down in 1968. He told a two-person board panel that he was moved to tears by Sirhan’s remorse and that the 77-year-old should be released if he’s not a threat to others. Born March 19, 1944, Sirhan is a Palestinian militant who was found guilty of a*sas*inating the New York Senator and brother of slain president John F Kennedy in a Los Angeles hotel on June 5, 1968.  Robert F.
