Veteran comic actor Baba Suwe, real name, Babatunde Omidina, has died. He was 63 years old.

The comic actor who dominated the Yoruba movie industry for decades as an actor and producer died today November 22nd after a battle with an undisclosed illness. May his soul rest in peace, Amen.

Lekki Tollgate incident can be equated to a mas*acre — Lagos ENDSARS Panel

The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Ab*ses and Other Matters (Lagos EndSARS Panel) has reported the Lekki Tollgate sh*otings of October 20, 2020, as a mas*acre. The panel indicted soldiers and implicated Nigeria’s security agents in the k*lling and forced disappearances of harmless and unarmed youths protesting at Lekki Tollgate on October 20, 2020. The Justice Doris Okuwobi-led panel made the revelation in a 309-page report submitted to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Monday, November 14. According to the report, nine protesters were confirmed d*ad while four others were presumed d*ad. The report listed 48 names as those who were casualties of the Lekki incident. 48 year old married man arrested over death of his 50 year old mistress who died after they finished having s3x in his matrimonial home in Ogun

A 48 years old butcher Segun Taiwo, pictured above, has been arrested by men of Ogun state police command in connection with the death of his 50 years old woman friend Abimbola Olusola whose corpse was found by the road side at Aro area of Abeokuta.  The suspect was arrested following a piece of information received at Lafenwa divisional headquarters, that a woman corpse was seen lying on the roadside at Aro area of Abeokuta.  Upon the information, the DPO at lafenwa despatched his men to the scene, where the corpse was recovered and deposited at the mortuary.  The case was subsequently transferred to state criminal investigation and intelligence department on the order of the commissioner of police CP Lanre Bankole for discreet investigation. Mother of 4 falls and dies in a septic tank while walking through it in Edo

A mother of four has died after she fell into a sewage tank inside her compound located along Uyi road in Benin city, Edo state. According to ITV, the deceased identified as Mrs. Osairome, went out of her house to fetch water in a well located in the compound. She had finished fetching two buckets of water and was returning to her house when she climbed on the sewage tank in the compound. The tank sadly caved in and she plunged into it. Passersby made frantic efforts to rescue her alive. Sadly, she died and her body was recovered and has been deposited in a morgue in the state.  Her husband while speaking on the incident said he was in church when he got the call that something had happened in his house He said he was later informed of how his wife died.

EFCC releases Obi Cubana after three nights in custody

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has finally released businessman Obi Cubana.  He was arrested and taken to the headquarters of the anti-graft agency, Jabi, Abuja, on Monday, November 1, following allegations of money laundering and tax fr*ud. He was, however, released on Thursday evening, November 4, after he had spent three days in detention undergoing interrogations. According to the spokesman of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, who confirmed the release to reporters on Thursday night, Cubana was allowed to go after the crack detectives of the commission completed their questioning. 

Ogun Housewife arrested for planning with others to ki3nap her husband who she said has money but is very stingy

A housewife, Memunat Salaudeen was on Monday, November 1, arrested by operatives of Ogun state police command for planning with three others to kidnap her husband.  The suspects were apprehended at about 6:30 pm along Papa/Itori road while men of Federal Highway patrol team, led by Inspector Sunday Imohiosen, were on stop and search duty. The team, accosted three young men namely Olayinka Lawal, Asungba Nura and Usman Oluwatoyin whose look was highly suspicious on a motorcycle, and stopped them for search.  While searching them, a cutlass and a new strong rope were recovered from them. The team quickly separated them and questioned them individually about their mission in that area with rope and cutlass. Businessman Obi Cubana allegedly arrested by EFCC operatives

Popular socialite and businessman, Obinna Iyiegbu, aka Obi Cubana, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged money laundering.  It is reported that the Anambra-born club owner,  who arrived the headquarters of the EFCC at Jabi, Abuja, at about noon on Monday, is currently being interrogated by operatives of the commission. It is alleged that his case borders on alleged money laundering and tax fraud. The  EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said he was yet to be briefed on the development. 

Ogun police arrest suspected cultist allegedly trying to disrupt a school's examination

The Rivers State Police Command arrested a 51-year-old woman, Gladys Amadi for killing her husband, Eze Napoleon Amadi, at their residence in Igwuruta community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.    It was gathered that the deceased was the traditional ruler of Chokocho Etche community in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State. FG begins the sale of Diezani’s brassieres, other properties across the country

The Federal Government has begun the process for the valuation and sale of property belonging to the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke which were forfeited to the government. The Diezani property is located in the exclusive Banana Island Foreshore Estate in Ikoyi, Lagos, and consists of 18 apartments and six penthouses in Building 3, Block B, Bella Vista, Plot 1, Zone N, Federal Government Layout. 99.4 % of bank accounts contain less than N500,000— NDIC

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC, said that 99.4 per cent of bank accounts contain less than N500,000 Maximum Insured Limit (MIL) of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC. Managing Director/Chief Executive, NDIC, Mr. Bello Hassan disclosed this in Gombe, at a recent event.He stated this against the concerns over the adequacy of tl the NDIC’s maximum coverage limits of N500,000per depositor per commercial, merchant and, non-interest bank, primary mortgage bank and mobile money operator, as well as N200,000 per depositor per microfinance bank. “The Corporation invites you to note that in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, the total number of accounts in the deposit money banks stood at 83.0 million; 99.1million; 112.0 million and 128.4 million respectively.  Out of these numbers, the N500,000 coverage limit fully covered 99.4%; 97.6%; 97.5% and 97.6% of accounts, respectively. Kano Hisbah arrest man who put himself up for sale for N20m

A 26-year-old man identified as Aliyu Na Idris who put himself for sale for the sum of N20 million has been arrested by Hisbah police in Kano. Head of Hisbah Board, Commander Sheik Harun Ibn Sina said it is forbidden in Islam for one to put himself up for sale. “Yes we arrested him yesterday (Tuesday) night and he spent the night with us but I haven’t interrogated him,” he told The BBC. Idris, a tailor, had told reporters that he put a placard on his neck and went around Kano city, saying ‘I am for sale for N20m’ because of poverty. “My family is aware of it and it is because of poverty, I first tried Kaduna but I didn’t get any buyer so I moved to Kano. Some people have made their bargain but nobody has reached the N20m target.” He added that he planned to give the government N5m as tax if he gets a buyer willing to pay N20m. Pres. Buhari Launches Nigerian Digital Currency, E-Naira

President Muhammadu Buhari has launched Nigerian digital currency, E–Naira. While launching the digital currency, at the State House, Abuja, on Monday, October 25, the president said the adoption of new CBN digital currency is estimated to increase Nigeria’s GDP by $29 billion over the next 10 years. “We have become the first country in Africa and one of the first in the world to introduce a digital currency to our citizens,” he said.  Adding that the new virtual currency would improve cross-border trade, financial inclusion for those outside the formal economy and increase remittances.  Nigerian authorities say the currency is not intended to replace cash but will function as a safe and efficient alternative means of payment. The eNaira will be a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), issued by the government, and it will have the same value as the paper, or fiat, currency.

A 36-year-old man, Abubakar Halilu, has narrated how he plotted the kidnap and m*rder of his cousin, to avoid repaying the sum of N1.4 million he owed her, in Galadimawa, Kaduna State.  According to him, his cousin bought some tricycles valued at N3.9 million and gave them to him on hire purchase. Former Deutsche Bank whistleblower awarded $200m record payout

An American regulator has handed a record-breaking award of almost $200 million to a former Deutsche Bank employee who raised the alarm about Libor-rigging, in the biggest-ever US whistleblower payout. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in a statement on Thursday, October 21, said the payment had been made for “specific, credible and timely original information” that “significantly contributed” to an already “open investigation” by authorities in the US and UK. Reuters reports that a Law firm, Kirby McInerney LLP, said one of its clients received the record bounty after providing extensive information and documents in 2012 that "catalyzed" investigations by the CFTC and a foreign regulator into benchmark manipulation. Two sources told Reuters the whistleblower had previously worked for Deutsche Bank. Man puts himself up for sale for N20m in Kano. Rejects N10m, N5m offers

A 26-year-old tailor, identified as Aliyu Na Idris, has put himself up for sale in Kano for the sum of N20 million. Idris, who’s said to be from Kaduna State, has been roaming the streets of Kano with a placard that reads, “This man is for sale for N20 million.”  Daily Trust reports that the young man has been on the streets for five days looking for who will buy him. According to him, he had decided to sell himself due to hardship. He said his family was aware that he had offered himself for sale, adding that he had initially presented himself for sale in Kaduna but when he could not get a serious buyer, he decided to try Kano State with the hope that someone will pay the required price. “Even though many people have offered me various prices of N10m, N5m and N300,000 in Kano, I refused because the amount is less than what I expected,” he said.  The young man said he was operating a tailoring business which failed due to the financial crisis and as such, he lost h...

61-yr-old man arrested for deflowering and defiling a 15-yr-old girl for four years

  The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, has charged a 61-year-old man, Alfa Olayiwola Rasak, to court for allegedly r*ping a 15-year-old girl. Rasak was charged to court on Friday, October 22, for R*pe contrary to Section 34(1) and p*nishable under section 34(2) of the Child Rights Law of Oyo State by the Anti-Human trafficking and child protection unit of the command. The command’s spokesperson , CSC Oluwole Olusegun, who disclosed this in a statement, said the suspect was arrested for defiling the minor and had continuously r*ped her for over 4 years. He was said to have deflowered the girl when she was 11 years. The suspect was dr*gged before Chief Magistrate S. H. Adebisi of family court 1 Iyaganku Ibadan and after hearing the count charges against him, the suspect pleaded guilty and was asked to be remanded in Abolongo correctional facility till November 8, 2021.
