Policeman not suicide bomber died in Ebonyi after grenade on his waist mistakenly exploded - Police



The Ebonyi state police command has said that the man killed in an explosion on Tuesday May 25 in Afikpo, Ebonyi State is a policeman and not a suicide bomber as claimed by many. 
 
Recall that an explosion which occurred opposite Amizi Amangbala Primary School in Afikpo North threw the area into panic as passersby scampered for safety.
 
Spokesperson of the Police in Ebonyi state, Loveth Odah said the victim of the blast is a Mobile Police Officer on special deployment to Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
 
The police Inspector identified as Mr Idi Aminu, reportedly died as a result of an accidental hand grenade explosion.
 
Odah who said the police officer was an operative of MOPOL 32 and not a suicide bomber as claimed by many, mistakenly hit the lead of his grenade which was hanging on his waist. 
 
She said; 
 

“He mistakenly hit the lead of his grenade which was hanging on his waist with his elbow resulting in the deadly explosion."

 
His remains had been evacuated to a mortuary.

Nigerian footballer, Kelvin Odenigbo, drowns in Belarus lake

A Nigerian footballer, Kelvin Odenigbo, playing for FC Vitebsk in Belarus, has been found dead after drowning in a lake. Boko Haram throws Maiduguri into darkness again, blows up power tower.

Barely 72 hours after electric power was restored in Maiduguri, Borno State, Boko Haram insurgents on Saturday, March 27,  blew up another transmission tower in the city. Premium Times reports that the insurgents planted explosives on each leg of the tower, which they detonated at about 6 a.m. In January, the terrorists struck power installations thrice at a location about 50km from Maiduguri to keep the city in the dark. The power, was however, restored on Wednesday, March 24, after nearly two months of blackout. While reconnecting the installation, three TCN officials were severely injured by a landmine planted by the insurgents. Another official was said to have lost his life after falling off a tower. The city has now been thrown into another darkness following the Saturday morning attack.
