37 suspected coronavirus patients arrested, quarantined in ebonyi isolation centre

No fewer than 37 suspected coronavirus patients who invaded Ebonyi state through the Enugu state border were yesterday arrested and quarantined in Ebonyi isolation center, located at Unity Square Abakaliki.

Recall that two persons were confirmed positive to coronavirus in neighboring Enugu state and currently quarantined.

Following the discovery of the Enugu cases, Gov. David Umahi closed down the border linking Enugu and Ebonyi state to avert influx of persons suspected to have Covid-19.

DAILY POST gathered that the arrested patients were quarantined at an uncompleted mini-stadium known as the ‘unity square’ located at Amagu street, Abakaliki.

Although the isolation center was still under construction, the state governor has reportedly deployed equipment to the center to ensure that the quarantined persons are adequately taken care of.

The Medical team leader in the Ministry of Health, Ebonyi State, Dr. Igwe Divine, who spoke to DAILY POST at the ‘Unity square’ isolation center confirmed the quarantining of 37 persons.

According to him: “They are here in unity square, one of our isolation centers, the centre is perfectly in order and well equipped according to the world health organization standard.

“The governor is doing his best to ensure that coronavirus doesn’t spread in Ebonyi state. Currently, we have not had a confirmed case of coronavirus in the state, and I think that we will not have it, following the measures that we have put in place.

“But, prevention is better than cure. medical personnel have been dispatched to all the borders to ensure that everybody coming into the state either is tested.

“As of yesterday, Some people that penetrated the state through the borders were arrested through the help of security agencies.

“Now, 37 persons have been quarantined in our isolation centers by order of the state governor, David Umahi. The suspects are already with us, and they will stay with us for fourteen days, which is the incubation period.

“They are being catered for in everything they needed. All we want is the isolation where our medical team will have access to them now and then to ensure that they don’t have this virus,” he stated.

Boko Haram throws Maiduguri into darkness again, blows up power tower.

Barely 72 hours after electric power was restored in Maiduguri, Borno State, Boko Haram insurgents on Saturday, March 27, blew up another transmission tower in the city. Premium Times reports that the insurgents planted explosives on each leg of the tower, which they detonated at about 6 a.m. In January, the terrorists struck power installations thrice at a location about 50km from Maiduguri to keep the city in the dark. The power, was however, restored on Wednesday, March 24, after nearly two months of blackout. While reconnecting the installation, three TCN officials were severely injured by a landmine planted by the insurgents. Another official was said to have lost his life after falling off a tower. The city has now been thrown into another darkness following the Saturday morning attack.
