I refused moving to US in 1987 – Oyedepo knocks Nigerians rushing abroad to do menial jobs

Bishop David Oyedepo, founder and president of Living Faith Church Worldwide, has revealed that he declined opportunity to relocate to the U.S in 1987. According to the cleric, he had an opportunity to relocate to the US in 1987 but declined the offer.  Speaking during a programme in the church, Oyedepo said, “I had all the opportunity to be in the US in 1987 and move there permanently. I said ‘Jesus what are You saying? Do I have any regrets for not being there? Never.’ Many are ordained to be employers of labour in this country. They’re jumping from job to job in another man’s country. Slavery kind of job because they won’t ask. Jumping about as if that’s a prize winner adventure. Everything is changing. You earn a degree in those days, you have to mention the country.” 

FG again extends NIN-SIM verification deadline to October 31

The Federal Government has extended the deadline for NIN-SIM data verification from July 26, 2021 to October 31, 2021. The Director, Public Affairs Nigerian Communications Commission, Ikechukwu Adinde; and the Head, Corporate Communications, Nigeria Identity Management Commission, Kayode Adegoke, made this known in a joint statement on Sunday, July 25.  According to the statement, “The Federal Government has approved the extension of the deadline for NIN-SIM data verification to October 31, 2021. The decision to extend the deadline was made following a request by stakeholders to accommodate registration in hard-to-reach remote areas, foreigners and diplomatic missions, diaspora and address low enrolments in schools and hospitals, as evidenced by enrolment statistics.” 

10 Nigerian pirates jailed for hijacking Chinese ship

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Friday, July 23, sentenced 10 Nigerian pirates to 12 years imprisonment each for hijacking a Chinese fishing vessel.  Jailed were Frank Abaka, Jude Ebaragha, Shina Alolo, Joshua Iwiki, David Akinseye, Ahmed Toyin, Shobajo Saheed, Adekole Philip, Matthew Masi and Bright Agbedeyi. The court found them guilty of seizing FV Hai Lu Feng II, off Cote D’Ivoire in May 2020. Justice Ayokunle Faji also ordered each of the pirates to pay a fine of N1million after they were convicted on all four counts preferred against them. They were arraigned by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) on July 13, 2020 on a four-count charge bordering on hijacking of the vessel in international waters off the coast of Cote D’Ivoire. They pleaded not guilty, and were remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Navy, following which the trial commenced. Police storm church, arrest pastor for allegedly collecting ransom for kidnappers

A 45-year-old pastor, Ndifreke Udo Amos, has been arrested by operatives of the FIB Intelligence Response Team (FIB-IRT) for allegedly helping a kidnap gang in the abduction of an 80-year-old man, Pa Anthony Ugbuzor Idornigie. The octogenarian victim was kidnapped in front of his house at Itoki, Lagos on November 14, 2020, while Amos was preaching to him. Amos was said to have convinced him to go with a stranger who said he wanted to rent an apartment at the house but didn’t have the rent with him.  The kidnappers demanded N20 million as ransom, which the victim’s family paid in various installments beginning with N850,000 on November 17, 2020, another N850,000, N250,000, N50,000, N50,000, N200,000, N650,000, N350,000 and N150,000. The victim was later rescued by FIB-IRT operatives, and the crime traced to the suspect after it was disclosed that a POS account belonging to him was being used by the gang to receive the sums paid in installments as ransom. Umar Faruk Umar, the Emir of Daura, says Nigeria is “lucky” to have Muhammadu Buhari as president at this point in time, adding that things “would have been very difficult” if Buhari was not at the helm of affairs. He spoke on Friday, July 23, when the president visited him at his palace in Daura, Kastina state. “Your visit to Daura reflects your good character which we are very proud of. I can assure you that men, women, children, marketers and artisans are always pleased to receive you and they will be praying for you. Today is not for speeches but for appreciation. We have been blessed so much as a community because you are the leader of the country. You have brought honour to our domain. Nigeria is lucky to have you at this time. I am not saying it to please you, but if you had not been in power it would have been very difficult. I doubt if we will be here today,” he said. 

Sign d*ath warrant of over 3,000 condemned inmates — Rauf Aregbesola tells governors

The Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, has asked governors to sign the d*ath warrant of 3,008 inmates on d*ath row at custodial facilities across the country. Aregbesola said this in Osogbo, Osun State, while inaugurating the newly constructed headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS in the State, on Friday, July 23.  He lamented that jail congestion is the major headache of the Service, saying that the entire national custodial facilities with a maximum capacity for 57,278 inmates currently has a total population of 68,747 inmates, made up of 67,422 males and 1,325 females. Court convicts son, mother and girlfriend for $902,935 internet fraud in Asaba

Justice F. A. Olubanjo of the Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State on Thursday, July 22 convicted and sentenced Gift Kenneth, Dora Animam and Spice Chimzi Dandy Igwe to prison for internet-related fraud. A statement from EFCC says Kenneth, his biological mother, Animam and girlfriend, Igwe were arraigned on one count charge each by the Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for offences bordering on impersonation and obtaining by false pretences. They were said to have conspired to defraud an American lady, Lucinda Ann Garnes Henrichson of an aggregate sum of $902,935 The charge against Gift Kenneth reads: "that you Gift Kenneth (a.k.a Raymond Carl Eric ) on or about the year 2018 and 2019 at Agbor within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did fraudulently impersonate the identity of one Raymond Carl Eric by which you propose an Infrastructural Investment Project to one Lucinda Ann Garnes Henrichson living in Texas, United...
