She asked me for N10k for makeup- Plantain thief nabbed in bayelsa claims he stole to raise money for his girlfriend

A young man arrested for stealing bunches of plantain in Bayelsa community has claimed that he committed the offence because of his girlfriend.   According to Facebook posts shared by community leaders on Monday, May 24, the suspect was caught in Ebedebiri, Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.    During interrogation by a community leader, Peres Double, the suspect claimed that his girlfriend demanded for the sum of ten thousand naira (N10,000) supposedly to buy make-up and had given him a deadline to get the money.   The suspected thief from Angiama community, said he became so frustrated that he entered people's farms in Ebedebiri, harvested their plantains in a bid to sell them and raise money for his girlfriend.    The suspect pleaded with the community leadership to forgive him. 

U.S says surety provided by ogun state governor aide, abidemi rufai, is also a suspected fraudster

  United States Magistrate Judge in Eastern District of New York, Ramon Reyes has received a letter from the US Department of Justice, claiming that the surety provided by Abidemi Rufai, the suspended aide of Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state, is also a suspected fraudster.    LIB reported earlier that Rufai who was arrested while trying to get out of the U.S. on May 14, has been accused of using the identities of more than 100 Washington residents to steal more than $350,000 in unemployment benefits from the Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD) during the COVID-19 pandemic last year.   After being arraigned in court, the suspect presented a registered nurse identified as Nekpen Soyemi as his surety after his brother, Alaba Rufai, who is listed in court records could not post the $300,000 surety bond for his bail.   Release of Mr Rufai was delayed until May 25 by Magistrate Reyes, to give enough time to federal prosecutors to appea...

I’m the only Nigerian governor who does not receive monthly salary – Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano

The governor said this over the weekend at his country home, Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State, shortly after inspecting the Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport at Umueri. He explained that after his tax has been deducted from his salary, he sends the balance to homes of the destitute for their upkeep. He added that he has been working for the state for free. Obiano, who also described himself as "a man of classical quality", said the Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport was built with the best of facilities, same as those in any international airport of repute. 

Sokoto state Commissioner for Agriculture, Arzika Tureta is dead.

The commissioner died in the early hours of Monday May 24 at Usmanu Danfodio University Teaching, at the age of 62. Tureta who left behind two wives and seven children, once represented Tureta local government area in the Sokoto State House of Assembly, before becoming a federal lawmaker representing Bodinga/DangeShuni/Tureta Federal Constituency. 

UK Black Lives Matter activist, Sasha Johnson is fighting for her life after being shot in the head in London following "numerous death threats"

The prominent British Black Lives Matter activist is in critical condition in hospital after being shot in the head in London, her political party says.   The 27-year-old is in intensive care after being "brutally attacked and sustained a gunshot wound to her head" in the early hours of Sunday, May 23, according to Taking The Initiative party.   In a statement on the group’s Facebook page, the party said that the incident happened in the early hours of Sunday and followed “numerous death threats”.   The statement said: “It is with great sadness that we inform you that our own Sasha Johnson has sustained a gunshot wound to her head. Ghanaian ladies are more unfaithful than men – Singer Kwabena Kwabena shares experience after 3 unsuccessful marriages

The Ghanaian high-life singer and guitarist said this while sharing his experience from his 3 unsuccessful marriages in an interview with Sammy Kay.  According to him, Ghanaian ladies are more unfaithful in relationships and marriages than Ghanaian men.   Kwabena who maintained that people do not speak the truth, added that he can state for a fact that he is one of the most faithful men any woman can ever have. Count me out of agitation for Yoruba nation – Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor,  Rotimi Akeredolu, has distanced himself from the agitation for a separate Yoruba nation, saying he does not believe in the secession agenda.   Akeredolu said he was only in support of the position of the Southern Governors’ Forum on the ban on open grazing in the southern part of the country and didn't give any support behind the agitation for Yoruba nation being spearheaded by activist, Sunday Igboho.   The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Richard Olatunde said: “Some group of persons who held a rally under the cover of what they term ‘secessionist agitations’ in Akure, on Saturday, May 22, 2021, erroneously claimed to have had his support for the rally.
