Nigerian lady with loss of memory, deported from Oman is currently stranded at Lagos airport

A Nigerian lady identified as Funmilayo Victoria Fehintola who was reportedly deported from Oman has been found roaming at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammad Airport in Lagos.   DailyTrust reports that the 31-year-old lady who is alleged to have lost her memory, arrived in Nigeria onboard an Emirates airplane with passport number A10173960. Her documents show that she left Nigeria for the Middle East on February 29, 2019.   According to the report, a cargo agent at the airport, Thompson Oladapo, who has been catering for Funmilayo’s upkeep for a week, said the lady hardly responds to inquiries from people who attempt to assist her to locate her family. Covenant university sacks lecturer arrested for allegedly raping teenage student in his office

Authorities of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, has sacked Dr Stephen Ukenna, a lecturer in the institution that was recently arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old female student in his office on campus.   Dr. Ukenna had been arrested on March 11 by the police in Ota for "forcefully having unlawful carnal knowledge of the student." According to the police, the 41-year-old lecturer was arrested following a complaint lodged at the Ota Police Area Command by the parents of the victim.    The lecturer was dismissed with immediate effect as approved by the President of the University’s board, Bishop David Oyedepo, who is also the Chancellor of the institution.   An Alumnus of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Nigeria with a Doctor of Philosophy in Marketing, the suspect joined the employment of the Covenant University in 2017 as a lecturer in the Department of Marketing. 

John Magufuli: Tanzania's president dies aged 61

Tanzania's President John Magufuli has died aged 61, the country's vice-president has announced. He died on Wednesday from heart complications at a hospital in Dar es Salaam, Samia Suluhu Hassan said in an address on state television. Mr Magufuli has not been seen in public for more than two weeks, and rumours have been circulating about his health. Opposition politicians said earlier this week that he had contracted Covid-19, but this has not been confirmed. " It is with deep regret that I inform you that today... we lost our brave leader, the president of the Republic of Tanzania, John Pombe Magufuli," Vice-President Hassan said. She said there would be 14 days of national mourning and flags would fly at half mast. Mr Magufuli was declared president on his 56th birthday in October 2015. Via BBC 

Wanted serial killer apprehended in Ogun

 Men of the Ogun State police command have arrested Suleiman Ganiyu, pictured above, an alleged serial killer and member of Eiye cult group who had been on the wanted list of the Command for a while.   Abimbola Oyeyemi, the spokesperson of the state police command said the suspect was arrested following a distress call from Itamerin Comprehensive High School Ago-Iwoye on March 14, that the suspect came to the school premises and started shooting sporadically simply because his younger brother who is a student of the school was beaten. ''Upon the distress call, the DPO Ago-Iwoye, CSP Paul Omiwole led his patrol team to the school but before their arrival, the suspect had ran away. He was subsequently traced to his hideout at Imosan Street Oru-Ijebu where he was eventually apprehended. On interrogation, he confessed being a leading member of Eiye confraternity. Six suspected cultists arrested for murder in Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested six persons suspected to be members of a cult group for allegedly shooting and killing one Aboyowa Osawe in Sapele.    Spokesperson of the command, DSP Edafe Bright, who disclosed this in a statement said that on Tuesday, March 16, at about 8pm, information got to Sapele Division that Osawe was shot dead at a beer parlour at Shell road Sapele.    The Divisional Police officer CSP Harrison Nwabuisi quickly mobilized men to the scene, and commenced investigation immediately. Two Nigerians jailed in the UK for fraudulently claiming £500k loan meant for businesses affected by Covid-19.

Two Nigerians who exploited the UK Government's Coronavirus Bounce Back loan scheme by using the identities of eight innocent people to fraudulently obtain £489,000 have been jailed.    Timilehin Yvette Olasemo, 39, appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday, March 17, and was sentenced to three years and two months’ imprisonment for conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation. Olasemo pleaded guilty to the offence on 12 November, 2020.   Co-defendant, Olufumi David Akinneye, 33, was sentenced to a total of five years and six months’ imprisonment for conspiracy to money launder and conspiracy to commit fraud after pleading guilty to those offences on 12 November, 2020. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the UK Government created a scheme to support businesses struggling through the lack of economic activity.
