Some individuals sell fake COVID19 result certificates in Lagos – Health commissioner, Akin Abayomi says

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has alleged that fake COVID19 certificates are on sale in the state.   Abayomi said this at a press conference to give an update on the second wave of the virus in Lagos.  He said it has come to the attention of the government that a number of people who came into the country were patronizing individuals who sell fake COVID-19 results certificates.   He said the state government is currently setting up machinery in place to apprehend those doing such unscrupulous businesses.   “Positivity for inbound travellers is on the rise (8% this week, 4% cumulative) as Nigerians in Diaspora return to spend Christmas in Lagos. It has come to our attention that a number of people are patronizing individuals that sell fake COVID-19 results. 75-year-old man dies of heart attack two hours after receiving COVID-19 vaccine in Isreal

A 75-year-old man from Northern Israel died of a heart attack about two hours after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday, December 28, the Health Ministry has confirmed.   The man had pre-existing conditions and had suffered from heart attacks in the past, the ministry said.    Chezy Levy, the Health Ministry director-general has launched an investigation into the incident.   The man received the vaccine at 8:30 in the morning, at a Clalit clinic, and waited at the facility for a short period of time before he was released to his home feeling well.   According to the Jerusalem Post, the man lost consciousness and was later confirmed dead from heart failure.   Levy noted that the initial findings do not show a link between the man’s death and his vaccination.   The Health Ministry said, “A 75-year-old man from the north of the country suffering from active heart disease and malignant disease, who has undergone a number of heart attacks, was vaccinat...

46-year-old Nigerian man arrested in India for cocaine possession

A 46-year-old Nigerian man has been arrested in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai for possession of 55 grams of cocaine.   The accused identified as Ali Oluwaseun Ibrahim was nabbed by a special team of Adyar police based on a tip-off when he reached the Thiruvanmiyur bus terminus to board a bus to Puducherry on Saturday night, December 26.     Investigation revealed that Alif Oluwaseun often flies from Nigeria to Pune where he allegedly buys cocaine in bulk before reaching Chennai by bus to sell each gram of cocaine for Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000.   “He does not stay in Chennai, but delivers cocaine to those who have placed an order with him over the phone and returns to Nigeria by flight,” said inspector Ramasundaram who was part of the special team.   Apart from cocaine, his passport, flight tickets to Nigeria and cash were seized.   “If we had not secured him, he would have flown back to Nigeria on Sunday,” said police. China jails journalist for 4 years for reporting on coronavirus outbreak in wuhan

A Chinese court has sentenced a  journalist who reported from Wuhan, the city in which the Covid-19 pandemic started, to four years in jail on charges of "picking fights and provoking trouble," one of her lawyers said.   The Pudong New Area People's Court in the financial hub of Shanghai sentenced Zhang Zhan following accusations she spread false information, gave interviews to foreign media, disrupted public order and "maliciously manipulated" the outbreak.   Zhang, a former lawyer, arrived in Wuhan in early February from her home in Shanghai and posted on various social media platforms about the outbreak that is believed to have emerged in the central Chinese city late last year.   Zhang was detained in May and accused of spreading false information, giving interviews to foreign media, disrupting social order and attacking the government. Gunmen kill man in Ondo hotel

Some suspected hired assassins at the weekend invaded an hotel in Akure, Ondo State capital, killing a 38-year-old businessman, Babatunde Adeluka Olubasa, who lodged at the hotel. Olubasa who was in Akure for a social function was said to have retired to the hotel when the assailants who trial him to the hotel opened fire on him at close distance. A source disclosed that the deceased had retired to his room but returned to the bar to request for drink when the suspected assassins approached him and eventually shot him severally before leaving the hotel. Notorious female human trafficker arrested in Ogun for attempting to traffick two underage girls to Libya for prostitution

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 35-year-old woman, Comfort Innocent, for allegedly attempting to traffick two underage girls to Libya for prostitution.   Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the development on Monday, December 28, said the notorious human trafficker was arrested last Thursday, following a complaint by the mothers of the victims, Mrs Oluwaseun Adurotola and Sakirat Fasasi, over the abduction of 15-year-old Blessing Adurotola and Hasisat Fasasi, 16.   The parents of the victims had lodged complaint at Owode Egba Police Station that the suspect had abducted their daughters and was about taking them Libya where they will be forced into prostitution.    The suspect was nabbed on the strength of the information by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Owode Egba Police Division, CSP Matthew Ediae and his team.   She confessed to have been recruiting young girls ...
