The Imo state police command has arrested a couple for inflicting severe injuries on their eight old son for buying N100 worth of Akara (bean cake), instead of N50 in Umudagu Mbieri. The arrest of the couple Goodluck Ogbuji, 28, his wife Benita Ogbuji, 26, was sequel to a social media post which showed pictures of the severe injuries inflicted on Wisdom. It was gathered that the boy was severely beaten by Benita. Residents also alleged that Wisdom has stopped attending school since 2019 and his mom beats him at the slightest provocation. 

Everton legend, Leighton Baines has announced his retirement from football. The former England left-back, 35, made 420 appearances for Everton after joining for £6million from Wigan in 2007 and during his career scored 39 goals and registered 67 assists for the club. Baines won 30 caps for England but the emergence of Luke Shaw limited his chances in the national team. Baines’ final match came as a 70th-minute substitute against Bournemouth on Sunday July 26 where the team suffered a 3-1 home defeat. . Ramon Abbas a.k.a Hushpuppi has gotten another lawyer to represent him in California.  Hushpuppi's lawyer, Gal Pissetzky who is only licensed to practice in Chicago will now be supported by Vicki Podberesky of Andrues/Podberesky law firm based in Los Angeles. The law firm specialises in representing individuals in both state and federal criminal matters, as well as companies and individuals in administrative and in-house investigations. Pissetzky had applied to appear Pro hac vice on behalf of the alleged fraudster in California on July 22, with an attestation letter from the Attorney Registration and the Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court in Illinois. A Wisconsin man who won the $22 million dollar jackpot last month decided to split his lottery winnings with his best friend to honour a promise he made nearly 30 years ago. In 1992, two best friends, Thomas Cook and Joseph Feeney, promised each other that if anyone wins the lottery, they will split the winnings equally, 50-50.  They did not write a formal contract but simply shook hands after making the deal. In June 2020, decades after they made the promise, Thomas Cook of Elk Mound won the Powerball jackpot after purchasing a lottery ticket from a gas station in Menomonie. After winning, Cook contacted his friend Joseph Feeney. At first, Feeney thought Cook was joking because the pair would buy lottery tickets every week with no luck. Both men have agreed to take home $16.7 million and will receive $5.7 million each after federal and state taxes. Both men are retired and say they plan to go on vacation. A nurse, identified as Tunde Oyediran, has allegedly hacked his wife, Sarah, and two children to death with a cutlass, following a minor argument at their house in Inisa, Osun State. The incident occurred around 11.00 pm on Friday. The suspect, after the killings, was said to have used the cutlass to slightly cut his hand and stomach and subsequently raised a false alarm that they were attacked by unknown assailants. However, preliminary investigation by the Police indicated deception on the part of Oyediran, who was subsequently arrested for the dastardly act and the cutlass used for the killings was recovered from him. 

A Georgia mother and her twin sons were found dead inside a car submerged in a pond. 25-year-old ShaQuia Philpot and her 10-month-old sons, Caysen and Cassius Williams, were found after a fisherman spotted the vehicle at Mayor’s Pond in Augusta on Friday afternoon, July 24. Relatives told authorities that the family lived in Hephzibah but investigators did not disclose how the vehicle ended up in the pond in Augusta. Their autopsies will be conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to determine an official cause of death. Philpot’s mother, Myrtis Wright Bennett, confirmed their deaths in a Facebook post that reads: "The Lord only loan my daughter ShaQuia Philpot to me for 25 years my twins grandson Cassius and Caysen William for 10 months. .
