Truck crushes 10 year old girl to death in ondo

Tragedy struck as a lorry loaded with sand crushed a 10-year old girl, Anuoluwapo Oguneso to death along Okitipupa main market, Ayeka Road in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State. News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accident which happened on Wednesday evening caused panic among market women, passersby and residents of the area. An eye witness who preferred anonymity told NAN that the girl was trying to cross the road but some vehicles and motorcycles parked at the other side blocked her vision and unable to see the approaching truck that crushed her. “The vehicles and motorcycles parked at the other side of the road blocked the girl’s vision when she crossed, it was too late as the truck crushed her to death on the spot,’’ the witness said. Senator Elisha Abbo representing Adamawa North senatorial district has called for the sack of the service chiefs as  Nigeria  continues to battle mounting insecurity across the nation. Abbo made the call during plenary on Wednesday, January 29 while contributing to the motion on insecurity. coronavirus: travelers from China to Lagos to be quarantined for 10-14 days

Lagos State Government on Wednesday announced that it has reached an agreement with the China Embassy in Nigeria to quarantine all Chinese travelling back to Lagos from their country as a means of preventing the outbreak of Coronavirus in Lagos state. The Lagos state government reassured that adequate measures are being put in place to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus disease outbreak into the state. The Lagos State Government Secretariat, Alausa, Commissioner for Heath, Prof. Akin Abayomi, during a press conference said the government is leaving no stone unturned in preventing the disease from getting into the state. Many Chinese living in Lagos who travelled to China for their Chinese New Year would be planning to return for their businesses which puts the state in great risk of the disease outbreak. coronavirus:Federal government warns against travelling to China

The Federal Government on Wednesday advised against travelling to China until further notice. It asked those coming into the country from China to self-isolate for about two weeks. The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, told State House correspondents in Abuja that Nigeria was prepared to prevent the Coronavirus from spreading. He was one of those who briefed the State House Press Corps on the outcome of the maiden 2020 Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. The minister said those arriving from China or any of the countries with a major outbreak will be placed under watch. A Student of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) Hauwa Abubakar Kana, who was kidnapped some days ago on her way  to school has been released by the abductors together with the other victims. Kana, a 300-Level student of Veterinary Medicine, was kidnapped on January 19. He was later released after his abductors collected an undisclosed amount as ransom, family sources told CAMPUSLIFE. Sources informed CAMPUSLIFE that Kana, alongside her co-passengers were attacked with weapons and thereafter kidnapped on the road between Maraba-Nassarawa. Nigerian Pastor Who Faked His Own Kidnap For N5Million Ransom Arrested

The operatives of Kaduna Police Command have arrested Pastor James Clement who was said to have staged his own kidnap and demanded a  N5 million ransom . Clement was reportedly arrested with his alleged accomplice, George Otokpa, who served as the negotiator between him and his family. The Command’s spokesman DSP Yakubu Sabo said in a statement that 39-year-old Clement and Otokpa, “on 27th January, 2020, at about 1917 hours”, were arrested by operatives of the command’s anti-kidnapping unit for allegedly conspiring and faking Clement’s kidnap. The command said they demanded a N5 million ransom from Clement’s family through text messages using Otokpa as the negotiator. Sabo said their arrest followed a report by two members of the family of the fake kidnap. Sabo said Clement was tracked and arrested at a hideout where he hid himself while ransom negotiations continued with his family.

Enugu police command neutralizes bomb in NSUKKA hotel

Enugu State Police Command, yesterday, confirmed that officers from the command neutralised an object suspected to be an explosive device at Millipat Hotel Limited, Nsukka. The command fingered political power-play in the incident, but said they were still conducting round-the-clock investigations to fish out the pepatrators and unravel the circumstances that led to the act. While speaking to  Vanguard  about the incident, spokesman of the command, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed that officers moved to the scene of the incident and discovered an explosive device laid at the fence of the hotel, which belongs to a former lawmaker, Fidelis Okoro, who represented Enugu North in the Senate. Ndukwe, also assured of adequate security for residents within Nsukka and environs, adding that officers of the command have cordoned off the facility to forestall further arsonists’ attempts on it.
